Tommy Robinson supporters are turning to Christianity, leaving the Church in a dilemma
BBC News ^ | 23 November 2025 | Aleem Maqbool, Catherine Wyatt

Gareth Talbot does not necessarily believe in God, but he's started going to church.

He felt compelled to do so after taking part in one of Tommy Robinson's rallies in September.

"I never thought I had to choose before, but now I'm feeling like Christianity could be replaced, so that's why I feel the church needs support," the 36-year-old from Bradford says.

Gareth talks about the church in England being under "threat", as he sees it, mainly from Islam. He says his concern is about the extreme elements of Islam, not the religion as a whole.

He also makes claims about all the Christmas markets in London being renamed "festive markets" and about some areas of the country becoming "fully Muslim", as other reasons for feeling a need to engage more with Christianity.

Having now returned to the church he used to attend as a child with his grandmother in Little Horton, Bradford, Gareth says he wants to take more of an interest in what is going on there.

"It's not that I've found God," he says. "I've never felt you need to go to church to be a Christian, but it's always been the Christian religion that's kept our values and freedoms, and that's why I need to support it now."

He was among those attending September's Unite the Kingdom rally, and was in plenty of company. Many of the protesters, estimated to number between 110,000 and 150,000, who marched in central London that day carried Christian symbols such as wooden crosses, and placards featuring Bible verses. Some were dressed as crusader soldiers.

That was a lot to do with the man who organised the event, Robinson - real name Stephen Yaxley-Lennon - the far-right figure who says he recently found Christian faith while in prison.

No...that doesn't make you a Christian. But it is one of those things you do because you are. Just like good works.

Tommy is not far right. He is not even really right.

He is a centrist even left leaning.

He just does not think you should be allowed to get away with rape. Especially the rape of minors.

When did that become "far-right".

That is just basic civilized behavior.

And if you are pro-rape you really should be shown the door.

If you are a rapist for sure but if you are just not bothered by other people raping and against their being punished.....

You know what?

You are right.

Let's hang the lot of them.

I am a fan of civilization but I never claimed to be civilized.

We are not saved by our good works, but we are not saved apart from them.

For God will render to every man according to his works: to those who by patience in well-doing seek for glory and honor and immortality, he will give eternal life; but for those who are factious and do not obey the truth, but obey wickedness, there will be wrath and fury. There will be tribulation and distress for every human being who does evil, the Jew first and also the Greek, but glory and honor and peace for every one who does good, the Jew first and also the Greek. For God shows no partiality." (Romans 2:6-11)

If this is what it takes to get people to go back to church and find out what it is all about, then so be it.

The only way the West is going to save itself is via a Christian revival

Prayer For Mercy For The Nations

Father, You alone are the almighty God Who is abounding in mercy and loving-kindness. Father, You have shown great patience and long-suffering to so many people down through the centuries and yet we know that Your justified and perfect wrath will one day fall on the nations of this world if we continue to disobey Your laws and turn our backs on the God of our Salvation and His anointed Christ and Saviour Son.

Lord, we have strayed far away from Your ways and have become like a flock of straying sheep without a shepherd. Lord, we have become a rebellious people and we have followed the devises and desires of our own hearts and indulged in the sinful lusts of our fallen flesh. We are not worthy to be called your children. Lord, we confess that we have offended a holy God and we have disregarded Your holy ways. We have been quick to follow in the paths of unrighteousness and have wandered far away from the road of righteousness, that You in Your grace have designed for us to walk in, and Lord, there is no health in us, nor do we deserve Your pity or Your kindness.

But Lord, You have proved down through the centuries that You are a forgiving God and a God of tender-kindness. Slow to anger and of great long-suffering mercies. Oh Lord, we confess our faults and failings, our sins and our rebellions prideful hearts and we pray that You would restore us.

Forgive us Lord, and teach us Your ways. Raise us up again to be a nation that loves and trusts You, and Lord, we pray that one day very soon, You would send You Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, to come and take up His eternal rule on earth. Lord, we pray for that day when the earth will be filled with the glory of God as the waters cover the sea.

Lord, in Your justice remember mercy we pray. Pity Your creation and draw many out of the miry clay back into Your arms of loving forgiveness. In Jesus’ name, amen.

These blind people who think only “extreme” Muslims are the problem truly frustrate me. If one practices Islam and is true to the faith, then that person is sworn to kill me, the Christian or the Jew or the Buddhist or other.

"does not necessarily believe in God"

"'It's not that I've found God,' he says."

Godless nations fall.

The “BBC”...”estimating” between 110000-150000 attended the September rally.

It was FAR more than that...and NOBODY else in the UK could drive that many people to an event

Tommy has recently, openly, declared that his is now Christian. He’s come to the conclusion that Islam is evil to it’s core and that there MUST be an opposite force. He noted that while he’d studied the Koran to understand Islam, he’s never read the Bible.

I believe that was the final realization, Christ is king, and the truth. He’s followed be countless young British mean. I do believe this is a turning point for the UK.

Well done to this other man realizing that he needs to support the Church, even if he doesn’t feel particularly Christian - it is Christian culture that has shaped Britian, which it means to be “British”.

The establishment would be rocked if, suddenly, the Churches were full. They pander to strength, the Church has been weak and on the decline for decades. That said, the Church, in its current state, isn’t the Church it needs to be. This watered-down version, bending the knee to LGBT+++++, isn’t the answer. They need a Church full of strong minded men, not the feminized version.
