The woman set alight by a lunatic on a Chicago metro train is a 26-year-old analyst for Caterpillar who suffered burns to 60 percent of her body.
Bethany MaGee, 26, was doused in gasoline and set alight on the city's Blue Line on Monday night, but managed to flee the train and survive.
MaGee, from Upland in Indiana, works as a business research analyst at Caterpillar after graduating with a bachelors of science at Purdue's Polytechnic Institute.
Her Facebook profile photos revealed that she is an animal lover and churchgoer, who is close to her parents Emily and Gregory, and two brothers Mark and John.
MaGee's father Dr Gregory MaGee is a professor of Biblical studies at Taylor University, a Christian college in Indiana.
The man police named as her attacker, 50-year-old Lawrence Reed, is a serial criminal with 72 prior arrests freed months earlier by a judge after he allegedly attacked a social worker.
Monday's attack has drawn comparisons to the killing of Ukrainian refugee Iryna Zarutska on a light rail train in Charlotte, North Carolina, on August 22.
That prediction now appears to have been borne out, with MaGee now seriously-ill in hospital with her family by her side.
MaGee suffered the most serious burns on her left arm and hand, according to an update from her church community.
She had surgery earlier this week and is expected to be in hospital for at least three months for treatment and rehabilitation.
The victim was publicly identified by Transport Secretary Sean Duffy on Sunday. He wrote in a statement, alongside a photo: 'It is devastating that a career criminal with 72 PRIOR ARRESTS is now accused of attacking 26-year-old Bethany MaGee on Chicago’s L train, and setting her on fire.

In the good old days there was no such thing as 72 arrests for a single person. Because life in prison usually followed after the 5th or 6th arrest.
When Alcatraz was still in operation, I doubt any inmate of that prison had 72 arrests to their names. Some had only 2 or 3 arrests. Robert Stroud, the Birdman of Alcatraz had only one arrest to his name.

Horrible! Burns are some of the most devastating injuries. My kid worked in the burn unit of a major hospital during residency and believe me the stuff that was said about the problems of the patients there was just awful.

At best, she's severely disfigured. At worst, she'll languish in the burn unit for months in agonizing pain before succumbing to her injuries.

Five years ago, Reed attempted to set the Thompson Center on fire because he was angry that he didn't receive his Social Security check. Instead of putting Reed in prison, Judge Arthur Hill sentenced him to two years of “mental health probation.” While on that probation, Reed was arrested three times, including twice for battery. Those charges were dropped by prosecutors, and the court deemed his probation behavior “satisfactory.”
In a blow to the “defund the police crowd,” and further proof that their plan to send in social workers to deal with crime will fail spectacularly, Reed was arrested in August for assaulting a social worker at a psychiatric hospital. Reed knocked the woman unconscious and according to CWBChicago, she suffered “extreme nausea, severe pain in the eye and head, and difficulty with balance,” ended up in the ER twice, and was diagnosed with “optic nerve bruising and a concussion causing her to experience memory issues, headaches, and daily nausea.”
Prosecutors charged Reed with aggravated battery causing great bodily harm. Despite those serious charges and his lengthy record, Judge Teresa Molina-Gonzalez refused to jail Reed and ordered him released on electronic monitoring. Under her orders, Reed was allowed to leave his home from 6 am to 2 pm on weekdays, and could only visit the psychiatric hospital in the event of an “emergency.” In September, Judge Ralph Meczyk modified the monitoring to let Reed leave his home on Tuesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays.

I know that serious burns are horrible and disfigure.
When I was in College, I had a good friend who was blown off a drilling rig and survived horrible disfigure damage. He was X-military, and the kindest person you ever met. But strong.
The other 2 people on the rig, died outright.
I bet this poor girl wishes she had never set foot in left-wing hellhole like Chicago.
