Ministers are facing a growing revolt from Labour backbench MPs over sweeping changes to immigration rules.
Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood on Monday laid out plans to shake up Britain’s asylum system in a bid to stop migrants crossing the Channel in small boats.
The hardline reforms, based on policies in place in Denmark and the US, include potential visa bans for some countries, the fast-track removal of failed asylum seekers and changes to refugee status.
But at least nine Labour backbenchers have already publicly expressed concern about some of the measures, with one MP describing them as encouraging “the same culture of divisiveness that sees racism and abuse growing in our communities”.
Nottingham East MP Nadia Whittome said: "The Denmark-style policies briefed in the last couple of days are dystopian.

Damn fools believe their own propaganda. Meanwhile the poisonous cancer they imported is reaching critical mass.
Too late
Spot on, I think. I haven’t read the new proposal but according to a man I know who has read it more thoroughly than most journalists and political pundits, this is a soft proposal that will do very little to limit mass immigration.
However, given that most pundits and journalists misunderstand it, and the fact that most MP:s won’t read the proposal it may well be that the Labour MP:s will scuttle a law that could have saved their political hides.
Weird.....

Unfortunately, Shabana Mahmood is unlikely to change the immigration situation within the country for the better acting this way. Her initiative to copy the policy of Denmark and the US confirms only one thing - the Labour government has no idea how to deal with the internal situation. That’s why any decision seems to the Labour better than nothing.
"Hardline reforms?!" Pitiful!
I'd hate to see the "softline reforms" - a ban on the sale of outboard motors to invaders coming over from France?! No more red carpet rolled out for the invaders at Dover?!

29 year old socialist know it all of Punjabi decent. The stupid people of Nottingham East voted her in as an undoubtedly “wise” 23 year old. As one might suspect, over the last 35 years Nottinghams populace has become very “diverse”. Fricking Limeys made an immigration decision based on not wanting cook their own damn fish and chips, curries and Kabobs. Sound kind of similar.....
“ Shabana Mahmood … plans to shake up Britain’s asylum”
lol. As smart as putting Herman Goering in charge of England air defenses in WWII.
Unless the UK does something to fix its problem with women being allowed to vote, nothing will work.
