Indiana State Sen. Greg Goode was targeted in a swatting incident Sunday evening, hours after President Donald Trump publicly criticized him over opposition to redistricting efforts.
The Vigo County Sheriff's Office said an email was sent to police around 5 p.m. claiming people had been harmed inside Goode's southeastern Vigo County home.
Deputies responded but found all residents "secure, safe, and unharmed." Investigators determined the email was a prank designed to trigger a large police response.
"A false or prank call of this nature will never be acceptable," the sheriff's office said. "Not only do calls like this waste and reduce resources of deputies serving and protecting other parts of our county, they have a negative impact on the victim and their families as well."
Earlier Sunday, Trump posted on Truth Social, specifically naming Goode and Senate President Pro Tem Rodric Bray, calling them "RINOs" and saying they were "depriving Republicans of a Majority in the House." Trump threatened to primary any Republican who votes against redistricting.
The criticism came after Bray announced Friday that the Indiana Senate will not return in December to vote on redistricting due to insufficient support. The decision ends efforts to redraw Indiana's nine congressional districts, where Republicans currently hold seven seats and Democrats hold two.
Trump also criticized Indiana Governor Mike Braun, writing, "Considering that Mike wouldn't be Governor without me (Not even close!), is disappointing!" He called on senators to "DO THEIR JOB, AND DO IT NOW!"
Goode called his family "victims of a swatting incident" and sai,d "While this entire incident is unfortunate and reflective of the volatile nature of our current political environment, I give thanks to God that my family and I are ok."

This is really dumb over a single seat.
It’s all escalation on top of escalation, I guess... but jiggering maps for near-term partisan advantage is ultimately just stupid.
Strike down the antiquated VRA map requirements and then let the national chips fall where they may.
In case you haven’t been paying attention the Dems have been doing this for years. This is another case of idiot Republicans not being willing to wield power effectively.
Are you kidding?
I live in Illinois, which is the most rat gerrymandered state in the country.
The basic reality is that it is *literally* impossible to carve out an R district in Massachusetts and the best you could do in Connecticut is make a squiggly toss-up district that someone like Chris Shays could occasionally win (and everyone here would just complain about the winner anyway).
This is nothing but a temporary rabbit hole that only serves to isolate the GOP further.
Again - living a rat state? Once upon a time? Illinois *used to be* decided by the suburbs. The modern GOP has decided not to even compete there and instead? Trying to draw dead-end maps for temporary, fleeting gain.
The GOP needs to win back the suburbs and start inching its way into the cities. There are obviously plenty of urban voters that would LOVE an option. Start competing, stop playing games that amount to deficit spending.
Maps must be contiguous and within a state, must be equally populous. The further you push the needle, the closer the GOP gets to extinction.
Police respond to emails now?
There’s plenty of dysfunction with the GOPe, I’ll give you that. But this is about Indiana not Illinois.
So then why complain about the Republicans in Indiana trying to do the same thing.
Victim of swatting.
Note the thread above this one was about the man who shot the housecleaning service woman who went to the wrong address.
Waking up to strange people in dark uniforms and kevlar vests pointing a weapon at you in bed but it turns out to be swatting incident could lead to bad outcomes.
The next ones could be like the home invasion cases but a person hesitated and wondered if the punks were really SWAT guys.
Besides the fact that I think it’s stupid?
You create a lot of “pink” seats... and I’m not sure 2026 is a good environment to leaning on “pink” seats.
You do this kind of thing to presuppose the next election? You can easily make things worse. I haven’t looked at potential Indiana maps closely, but if 2026 is bad? It might backfire on Texas.
Voting history is not static and I think way too many people look at maps as if it was. You break up a few 60-40 seats to create 3 new 55-45 seats to eliminate a 60-40 rat seat? You might not actually gain - you might lose.
The dumba$$ did this himself.
