Of the 39m Ukrainians “officially” millions have gone abroad, and many of those will not return. I doubt they have more than 30m remaining in Ukrainian controlled territory. Some estimates run quite a bit lower than that.

Good question. Russia has converted factories to war production and has the ability to produce more weapons and has excess men available if needed. Meanwhile, Ukraine can’t even rotate troops for rest because there are no troops to rotate in. It can’t rest troops because they can’t be spared. Their army is being attritted and can’t get larger, it is getting smaller.
Meanwhile NATO/US talks a good game but has little material to send and is slow in production. Neither Europe nor the US is on a war footing, but they talk tough. Russia thinks it’s in a war of survival, NATO/US is in a war of containment. Russia will do whatever it takes to win.

I doubt that this will ever happen. I remember when Congress voted down a requirement that there be accountability for one of the multi tens of billion dollar gifts we gave to Ukraine.
Agreed, we (and the West) only served to prolong the inevitable.
The war is over, Russia won. Its like the American Civil war January 1865. The only hope was if France or some other great power would step in. Same with Ukraine—without a great power coming to save them—They are finished and in a few months Russian/North Korean troops will be marching in Kiev. No one in the west has the stomach for a big war with Russia—They fear their own people who wish a change in Leadership.
If after the USSR fell apart we had invited Russia into NATO (yes, all of us against Communist China etc etc) This mess would never have happened.
Instead we gave Japan a Constitution and Germany a three fourths ‘welcome back’...
Japan and Germany would still be ‘issues’ for the free world if we had treated them the same after World War II as we treated Russia after the collapse.
