An elderly former Ohio State University professor allegedly murdered his wife — and then tried to kill himself and his dog — after a woman he met on a dating app threatened to release nude photos of him in a $15,000 sextortion sting, according to police.
James Hill, 76, of Upper Arlington, told cops he felt he had no other way out after the unidentified woman threatened to release the embarrassing pics unless he paid her $15,000 in Apple gift cards, according to the Columbus Dispatch.
Hill stabbed his wife, Mary Kathleen Hill, 64, in the chest with a kitchen knife Sunday, according to court documents cited by the paper.
He then apologized to her and held her as she took her last breath, ABC 6 reported.
Hill also tried to stab his dog — but she ran away, according to the court records.
He then deleted the photos from his computer and plunged a knife into his own chest in a doomed attempt to take his own life, according to police.
Hill is a retired music professor and was involved in an upcoming performance, according to ABC 6.
“There’s no joy in performing knowing this information,” an anonymous student told the station. “Everyone was shocked. Nobody could have seen this coming.”
He was charged with premeditated aggravated murder and is scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday.

Anyone who let a spare the rest of us moment pass by releasing nude photos of that would be reviled by the whole world.
If you don’t produce (or allow anyone to produce) nekkid photos of yourself, the probability of nekkid photos of yourself being released to the public is nearly zero.
Math is hard, especially probability and percentages.
Flabby, blue pill man. Who wants to see that? Release the kraken.
Who was the woman? Asking for a friend.
The way it’s written suggests he only tried to kill himself and his dog.
I don’t give a flying fig about crazy people, but I hope the dog survived and found a good home.

Kill your wife and dog? Makes no sense.
Or better yet - say “I’m 76 years old. Yeah, I’ve made mistakes, but nobody really cares about an old man’s naked photos, and IDGAF either. Go ahead. Release them.”
no other way out.... shoulda thought of that before making stupid choices of nude photos, then he wouldn’t have made worse choice of killing his wife.
This guy also had another way out. Go to cops, explain situation and have them go after the extorter. Sure it’d be embarrassing but he wouldn’t be facing jail and his wife and dog would be alive.
Release nude photos, at age 76? I might have plunge a knife into my chest too.
Kill the recipient of the photos and not the extortionist? Wonder what course this genius taught?
I am not much younger than this guy but have so far managed to go my entire life without ever sending anyone any nekid photos, even back when I was young and there was a possibility of anyone wanting to see me nekid. Now I don’t even like seeing myself nekid when I get out of the shower. If I sent my wife a nekid photo she would call my doctor to schedule me for a dementia exam.
In all seriousness, these sorts of scams are not uncommon, especially targeting seniors. I suspect that he has some level of dementia, which made him a target in the first place.

I don’t know the details of this story but I’ll take a wild guess that the ‘woman’ was some guy in nigeria or india who used an image of a woman (or generated one with AI) and they never met other than online.

My guess is he suffers from delusions.
How could the women be unidentified? How would he send her the gift cards?
Whole story sounds contrived. Look deeper, Colombo.
