Trump’s Removal of Troops from Eastern Europe Causes Major Shockwaves
National Interest ^ | November 10, 2025 | Trump’s Removal of Troops from Eastern Europe Causes Major Shockwaves

The gnawing and weeping and gnashing of teeth in Washington, DC, over the recent US troop drawdown in NATO’s eastern flank has been quite an ordeal to witness from afar. One would think that President Donald Trump had finally fulfilled the wishes of some of his biggest supporters and abandoned NATO.

But that isn’t quite what happened. Indeed, the decision not to replace one of its rotational brigades, the United States Army’s Second Infantry Brigade Combat Team from the 101st Airborne Division that had been operating out of Mihail Kogǎlniceanu Air Base in Romania is not at all that controversial.

After all, the roughly 1,000 US troops that had been deployed were only ever meant to be deployed there temporarily. But it just goes to show how the NATO bureaucracy really works. What was always intended by the Pentagon to be a temporary deployment to NATO’s eastern periphery was actually meant to be a backdoor toward a larger and longer commitment by the United States on behalf of the NATO bureaucracy.

And now that Trump has gummed up those carefully laid designs, the Europeans (and their globalist allies in DC) are screaming like stuck pigs.

Romania is an interesting choice, too. It has become the epicenter of NATO’s grand plans in the wake of the Ukraine War. While the Pentagon has admitted this move of the 1,000 US Army light infantry elements out of Romania is part of a larger repositioning of forces to the Indo-Pacific, the unit in question was always going to rotate out. But the real reason that so many Atlanticists in Europe and Washington are raging over the move is because they fear what this is a prelude to.

Shows we’re not going to get sucked into leftist EU/NATO’s attemp to pick a fight with Russia. Romania is part of this cabal.

"getting cold feet about maintaining America’s historic commitment to NATO"

I'll be harsher: translated as US troops used as cannon fodder for European interests.

A side note. My wife and I had to renew our Military IDs once we turned 65.
Anyways, the ID card office is located inside the Navy Exchange building.
While wending our way through the building, I see this large framed map showing Navy Exchanges around the world.

Romania was prominently listed there . I thought to myself Romania , WTH ?

NATO explains it.

Euroweenies screaming like stuck pigs.

Emphasis on P I G S

I recently met a few handymen from Eastern Europe. Later, they just seemed to disappear. When I ran into one who was still here, he said the others did not like it in America. You have to work too hard. In Europe, they work 2-4 hours a day, then relax, have coffee etc.

President Trump said in no uncertain terns that each EU country has to contribute MORE to their own self defense. They will no longer feed at the USA trough.

Good. This is what I voted for. The Europeans should have been forced to grow up and start paying for their own defense as soon as the Cold War ended. Yes, I said this while living in Europe in the early 1990s.

We accomplished our mission. We defeated the fascists and we held back the Communists. It was time then to bring the boys home and we should have done so.

For all the complaints about aid to Israel, which is mandated by the Camp David Accords (1978), the U.S. spent nearly $28 billion for overseas bases and deployment in 2024, excluding combat and training operations. Host nations pay a portion towards that, but very little. I think Korea pays around 9%.

I love the sound of stuck pigs in the morning.

I’m in general agreement. But one suggestion:

“We defeated the fascists and we held back the Communists.”

We defeated the communists also.

Unfortunately, defeating the communists of the Soviet Union was one thing, defeating the communists in our schools is another.

Russia isn’t in any condition to fight outside of Ukraine.

Did you see the troops going into the last Ukrainian city? It looked more like a civil war in Africa and their raggedy assed made up armies.

What I meant was we held back the communists and gave their system time to implode - which it was always going to do. We did it without the need of a major war because we maintained deterrence. To me, that’s a much better victory than our victory over the fascists because it was won without spilling rivers of blood like it took in WWII.
