Rep. Scalise to Newsmax: Dems' Trump 'Tantrum' Keeping Government Closed

Senate Democrats are "holding the government hostage" over their political "tantrum" about President Donald Trump being in the White House, and are bowing to their party's "socialist wing" to keep the shutdown going, House Majority Leader Steve Scalise said on Newsmax Thursday.

"There's already a lot of problems that Democrats have caused by shutting the government down," the Louisiana Republican told Newsmax's "Wake Up America," while noting that federal employees, including members of the military, have been working without full pay.

This has become a very serious situation. This shutdown is affecting the safety of airlines and all aviation as we approach the Thanksgiving holiday. We can't let 45 childish, irresponsible democrat senators hold our country hostage forever. It's time for senate Republicans to seriously consider use of a limited "nuclear option" to end the shutdown: Pass legislation with a simple majority that funds the federal government for 3 months at current planned levels, while allowing expiring health care subsidies to expire without funding. We can't afford any new spending on our overpriced health care system. Our debt/GDP ratio is maxed out, and from here spending should only increase at the same rate as GDP, or slower than the rate of GDP growth. It's time to end this ridiculous stunt by radical senate democrats, and then get to work on building a majority of at least 60 Republicans in the US senate. If necessary, keep the 3 month time limit on spending bills passed with the "nuclear" option and continue passing 3 months spending bills to keep our government running until the 2026 election.

This is a constitutional republic. Elections have consequences. Democrats lost last year, and now it's time for them to stop holding our country hostage and reopen the government.

Yeah, America has heard that endlessly for 36 days. You control all 3 branches. You CAN end it. You are too chicken. Apparently Trump’s Fight! Fight! Fight! And the reasons around it are lost on Republicans. Nuke it or Lose it.

There is nothing stopping the House from doing its work. The Senate is the problem.

I don’t see anyone getting good press or scoring epic political points over this. Finger pointing is not leadership. It just makes you look like a weak whiner. I didn’t vote for this.

All the talk of the Dems having no leader nor direction was resolved Tuesday.

Watching many of the “winners” speak, it was obvious they do have a direction and plan for 2026 and 28. Mamdani will be the national spokesman for it.

Bank on it.

I think the Republicans senators have been instructed not to waive the 60 member requirement by Trump. Why, you ask?

It all headed toward Trump implementating the Insurrection Act. He can then essentially run Carte Blanc, as permitted under established law. Lincoln did this during the Civil War. That way Trump can expose the Deep State folks in both parties, try them under Military Law, convict them, limit their ability to appeal their sentences. We might even see executions!

After all, those over 500,000 sealed indictments that exist on the Pacer website exist for a reason. This is going to be delicious!

Republicans are the problem. They refuse to end the filibuster to pass Trump’s agenda. They will instead give Dems $ for illegals to get the government open. None of his executive orders will be codified. They will lose in 26 and 28 because they do not fight for their voters. They whine.

It's an interesting take, to be sure.

I would go another direction first -- Thune refuses to adjourn the Senate on Sunday.

"The Constitution says the president can adjourn Congress only “in case of disagreement” between the House and the Senate on when the chambers should recess, and for how long...even if one refuses — most likely the Senate, in this case — Trump could essentially play the role of tiebreaker and declare Congress adjourned."

Ignoring the lede in The Atlantic agitpropaganda, Article II permits Trump to dismiss Congress at any time for any reason but this is the better play -- work it in reverse!

Thune tells the Senate on the Lord's Day, either deliberate an end to this or we are in session and you will not leave this chamber nor DC.

The Democrats walk out, denying Thune a quorum to recess. Meanwhile, Trump has had Johnson maintain the House in order.

Now Trump invokes Article II and sends Congress home, with instructions not to return unless the Democrats agree to a bill. If they refuse to comply early next week, Trump declares the obvious National Emergency with martial law and suspends habeus corpus.

Then it is finally game on. Not just the 'nuclear option' in the Senate, but nuclear options.

No Congressional pay, expense accounts frozen, your staff is discharged as well.

You're a Democrat leader with a private government jet? Walk home.

You're a Democrat leader with government security? Get your own security.
