~The FReeper Canteen Presents~ Road Trip: Fort Polk, Louisiana
Fort Polk is a United States Army installation located in Vernon Parish, approximately ten miles east of Leesville, Louisiana, and thirty miles north of DeRidder in Beauregard Parish, Louisiana. Fort Polk began as a base for the Louisiana Maneuvers in the 1940s. It served the 1st Armored Division in the 1950s, and became a basic training post during Vietnam War years of the 1960s and '70s. It hosted the 5th Infantry Division (Mechanized) in the 1970s-1980s, and the 2nd Armored Cavalry Regiment in the 1990s and the 1st Maneuver Enhancement Brigade, and the 162nd Infantry Brigade in the 2000s. Fort Polk is now home to the Joint Readiness Training Center (JRTC) the 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division, 115th Combat Support Hospital, U.S. Army Garrison and Bayne-Jones Army Community Hospital.

The Joint Readiness Training Center is focused on improving unit readiness by providing highly realistic, stressful, joint and combined arms training across the full spectrum of conflict. The JRTC is one of the Army's three "Dirt" Combat Training Centers resourced to train infantry brigade task forces and their subordinate elements in the Joint Contemporary Operational Environment.
With great emphasis on realism, the JRTC Operations Group provides rotational units with the opportunity to conduct joint operations which emphasize contingency force missions. The JRTC training scenario is based on each participating organization's mission essential tasks list and many of exercises are mission rehearsals for actual operations the organization is scheduled to conduct.
JRTC scenarios allow complete integration of Air Force and other military services as well as host-nation and civilian role players. The exercise scenarios replicate many of the unique situations and challenges a unit may face to include host national officials and citizens, insurgents and terrorists, news media coverage and non-governmental organizations

    Howdy, PRO.
How was your weekend?
Real quiet here. Well, not really now that I think about it. Full supermoon coming up and the kittehs are feelin’ it already. Kinda dangerous walking through a NASCAR track. LOL

I am glad Trump changed the name back to Fort Polk. No disrespect to Mr. Johnson. Same with Fort Hood. I am sure there are others.

    Howdy, luvie.
Hope it didn’t warm up too much today.
We almost broke 60 this afternoon. Better than yesterday but I’m waiting for those 70s that start tomorrow.

Named after Confederate General Leonidas Polk. He was an Episcopal bishop before donning a uniform. As a member of the clergy, Polk would not let a single naughty word pass his lips. Not even inoffensive little naughty words like the H-word or the D-word.
By sheer bad luck, he was teamed with General Braxton Bragg, the most profane officer in the entire Confederate Army. There is a scene just before a major battle where Bragg exhorts his troops, being careful to limit his usual vocabulary in Polk's presence. Bragg said, "Now I want you boys to go out there and give them Yankees hell!" Leonidas Polk added, "Now you boys go out there and give the Yankees what General Bragg said to give them."

That’s what I was afraid of. This time of year is a butt-kicker for you. Hang on to yer hat! You’ll get through it. The season will be over before you know it.

I drove through there this summer. A big ole pine forest.

To: PROCON
Sounds like our weekend was about the same. The weather wasn’t all that great here so I had no desire to go anywhere.
It’ll be nice the rest of this week and I do have to get out to take a cat to the vet, and to have a blown-out tire replaced for ol’ Betsy. I just hope I can get it into the Town Car. It’s heavy.

Hi, lauren! You're welcome, but it's no more than anyone here would or could do. Being retired does have its advantages. LOL!
Hope you get time on that island soon...even if it's in N. Carolina. 🏝️

    Hey there, radu!
It was pretty warm but not overly so. I really didn’t need cover when trying to nap.I have up to today. It will continue to warm up until this coming Saturday. Nothing uncomfortable, though.
I hope you enjoy those 70s. I sure have. Maybe it’ll be easier to want to run errands when you don’t have to be bound by a heavy coat. LOL!
