It could become an 80-20 issue if the cartels gun down more Mexican mayors.

The history:
Club for Growth Mexican PAN President Fox ignored the Cartels and focused on building industry and jobs. The cartels grew becaue demand for their product grew.

Fox was followed by Social Conservative PAN Calderon who went full force against the Cartels. Cartels fought back. Many civilians were caught in the crossfire. A major incentive to move to the US was to flee the crossfire.

PAN lost to the left due to a vote against getting caught in the crossfire.

Any US action should learn from history. If US causes civilians to be caught in the crossfire it will be a big mistake. It will not play well in either the US or Mexico.

If the US (or anyone) can execute precision raids that involve only the cartels then it is another thing.

Yep. The cartels just assassinated Mayor Carlos Manza, and he's far from the first.

Things have been out of control down there for far too long.
