Summary
CHICAGO, Nov 2 (Reuters) - The immigration agents' tear gas grenades clinked and then exploded against the concrete, shrouding the block in plumes of white gas. The dozen or so residents at the scene only screamed louder.
"We don't want you here," yelled Rae Lindenberg. The 32-year-old, who works in marketing, ran out of her apartment when she heard the shrill sound of whistles. "Get out of our neighborhood!"
The squad of agents had appeared in Lakeview last month, an upscale neighborhood dotted with dog daycares, medical spas and vegan restaurants, hopping over a gate to chase down a construction worker who was handcuffed and shoved into a vehicle.
When Courtney Conway, a 42-year-old lifelong Chicago resident, heard about the chase through Facebook groups and text message chains, she hopped on her bike to join the protesters.
“We are not a violent city. This is not a war zone, and I think these guys are terrorizing us and trying to incite us,” said Conway. “We want them out. We want them to stop kidnapping our neighbors.”
CREATING A ZONE DEFENSE
Chicago, a city of 2.7 million, has long been known as a patchwork of close-knit neighborhoods. And since the city took center stage of President Donald Trump’s immigration crackdown in September, those neighborhoods have mobilized against enforcement efforts, sometimes block-by-block.
That hyperlocal effort, spun off into dozens of chats on social platforms, has helped create a type of zone defense that - activists say - has slowed down immigration agents...

Elections have consequences...like valid perfectly immigration law being enforced.
The accompanying photo hurt my eyes. It is compulsory you have to be at least 30% overweight to be one of these imbeciles?
Are the protests against ICE organic or are they out of town/suburban antifa operatives?
The sad part is that over the last 60 years, there have been over 40,000 murders in Chicago. Not only do the people who live there now think that is normal, but they seem to think it is the way it should be.
“We are not a violent city”……. Just stop girl…..
Chicago is a violent place you weird piece of trash. These folks are trying to help you and you fight them.
So who is "defending democracy", and who is undermining it?
That's what we said in November 2024
The people who are setting up these networks are obstructing the enforcement of Federal laws and must be arrested and indicted.
I’m done caring. Let Chicago, Los Angeles, and New York City burn.
One or two videos is all it takes to realize how much mental illness permeates the Democrats. I’m not trying to be insulting to them; I have truly come to believe that. These people are broken.
I mean the rank and file. Their leaders are Machiavellian sociopaths.
RE: I was born and raised in a city named Chicago...
Paul Butterfield Blues Band song in 1965:
Born In Chicago
I was born in Chicago, 1941
I was born in Chicago in 1941
Well, my father told me
“Son, you had better get a gun.”
Well, my first friend went down
When I was 17 years old
Oh, my first friend went down
When I was 17 years old
Well, there’s one thing I can say about that boy
He gotta go.
Well, my second friend went down
When I was 21 years of age
Oh, my second friend went down
When I was 21 years of age
Well, there’s one thing I can say about that boy
He gotta pray.
Well, now rules are alright
If there’s someone left to play the game
Well, now rules are alright
If there’s someone left to play the game
All my friends are going
Everything’s just don’t seem the same.
Oh, things just don’t seem the same.

Chicago is a very violent city. Tops the USA in murders annually.
The failure to report crimes and decreasing felonies to misdemeanors have resulted in lower crime statistics, but it is all a charade. Chicago is suffering because of lax policies that coddle criminals (Democratic voters) and hand cuff law enforcement.
The squad of agents had appeared in Lakeview last month, an upscale neighborhood dotted with dog daycares, medical spas and vegan restaurants, hopping over a gate to chase down a construction worker who was handcuffed and shoved into a vehicle.
“We are not a violent city. This is not a war zone, and I think these guys are terrorizing us and trying to incite us,” said Conway. “We want them out. We want them to stop kidnapping our neighbors.”
Bad News Rae, those are not your “neighbors” in your upscale area, they are the illegal workers who provide service for under market wages since YOU PEOPLE ARE TOO CHEAP TO HIRE AMERICANS AT A LIVING WAGE!
Fat, dumb and ugly is no way to go thru life...
Yeah tell that to the 10 families of those murdered every weekend that Chicago is NOT a violent place to live
So this dumbass thinks that “Jorge the construction worker” actually lives in her upscale neighborhood? Maybe ICE should herd all the illegals into neighborhoods like that & then leave. Let these concerned neighbors be forced to live with the criminals they’re defending so vociferously.
That's b.s. I grew up in those neighborhoods. It's actually been a very segregated city, with some improvement over the years - but some backsliding too. There's some truth in the statement that Chicagoans are nor prejudiced - they hate everyone.
You know what’s missing in that photo? Right- black people- the predominant majority in Chicago that’s getting shot up every weekend...of course i see mostly pasty white women and a few hispanic looking women...
“We’re not a violent city and we’ll beat the crap out of anyone who says so!”
-Chicagoans, probably.
