2 People Killed in Ukraine's Odesa Region as Russia Continues to Blast Power Grid

At least two people were killed in a drone attack in Ukraine’s southwestern Odesa region, Ukrainian authorities said Sunday. Meanwhile, Russia and Ukraine continued to pummel each other's infrastructure.

Tens of thousands of residents were left without power after Russia attacked the front-line Zaporizhzhia region overnight into Sunday with drones and missiles.

Regional Gov. Ivan Fedorov said nearly 60,000 people faced power outages and that two people were wounded in the attacks. He posted photos on Telegram of buildings reduced to rubble.

As a result of attacks on Ukraine’s power grid, several regions faced rolling power cuts on Sunday, Ukraine’s national energy operator, Ukrenergo, said.

The strikes were the latest in Russia’s sustained campaign on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure as bitter winter temperatures approach.

Ukrainian cities use centralized public infrastructure to run water, sewage and heating systems, and blackouts stop them from working.

Attacks aim to erode Ukrainian morale as well as disrupt weapons manufacturing and other war-related activity almost four years after Russia’s full-scale invasion of its neighbor.

Analysts and officials say that this year Moscow has shifted tactics, targeting specific regions and gas infrastructure.

The attacks have grown more effective as Russia launches hundreds of drones, some equipped with cameras that improve targeting, overwhelming air defenses — especially in regions where protection is weaker.

Get used to the fact that this war will go on for another 10 years

Once the Ukraine Army is gone, and Russia goes all the way to the Dneiper or beyond, the EU/Davos/British will simply support and train any remaining Azov elements in their bunkers in Western Ukraine in asymmetric warfare.

The goal is to keep Russia busy, and under pressure, and even if it means to the very last Ukrainian - that’s what will happen.

Who does not think that Russia has ALL of the plans for everything that’s in Ukraine?

Both sides have been hitting power grids and fuel supply depots as always in modern warfare.

Get used to the fact that this war will go on for another 10 years

Russia doesn't have the economy to go another 2 years, much less 10 years. They won't even go another year.

And Russia has basically run out of their original military personnel, and they'd had to use all their prisoners to go into the fight, and are desperately trying to 'recruit' people with bribes which are a lot more than they would have earned in regular jobs. But even the money for those bribes is running dry, and it will be Russia which will have to stop and pull out of Ukraine.

And of lately, it is Russia which has suffered irreparable damage to their energy infrastructure, and it would take Russia decades to recover from that damage.

Trump has seen what Ukraine has done to Russia in their homeland, and to Russians in the battlefield, which is why he has noticed that Ukraine can win back all of its territory and the Russians will be left with nothing.

Try to pay attention to what's really happening in the war. Russia is done, but they can't admit it,

Russia is actually building 'domes' around their big cities, since their air defense system can no longer protect them. But, putting wires and other blocks around their cities won't be able to stop the constant assaults by Ukrainian drones.

What does that mean? Could you be more obscure?

Glad you chimed-in so quickly. Thank you for confirming exactly the talking points of the Davos/UK side - "Russia's on the verge of collapse! So we will continue this war until the last Uke is dead."

I'm sure you'll be repeating them often over the next 10 years.

Uhm. Ukraine was part of (District 1) of the Soviet Union...

Do you know any history?

Russia has no desire to takeover all of Ukraine.

The Russians would be more than happy with the annexed area, which builds a land bridge from mainland Russia to Crimea and is comprised of a population that doesn't want to go back to being part of Ukraine.

But, they aren't putting up with a NATO military threat in what is left of Ukraine, either.

Are you aware that Ukraine used to be part of the Soviet Union, and that there are still people in Ukraine that know Russia as well as when they were Soviets?

The Ukrainians now know Russia better than the Russians know the current Ukraine.

Is that the history you wanted to talk about? Is there anything you know better than what the Ukrainians know?

Don't talk in riddles. Learn the truth and then issue your comments, which will be, hopefully, better informed.

The same thing is true for the Ukrainians. You do know that when the Soviet Union still existed a lot of design and manufacturing got done in Ukraine, or maybe you don't.

Of course open source satellite data lets everyone know where the power grid substations are worldwide.

Most who follow/understand the situation would say Russia doesn't want all of Ukraine. It would be an headache to maintain, even if doable, which it's likely not.

Odessa may not even be doable, but if it is, Russia should take it. It is, after all, Russian, and very strategic, considering the West seems to insist on making Russia an enemy.

This “war” will end at the Dnieper, I expect. The Ukraine and Russia will resolve their differences. The former Soviet Union in Ukraine will be of no consequence.

Glad you chimed-in so quickly.

I'm always at the ready to correct the record and debunk all the nonsense that you and your fellow Putinistas post.

Thank you for confirming exactly the talking points of the Davos/UK side -

You want to define it as such, but the truth cannot be undone by your dismissive attitude or nonsensical comments.

"Russia's on the verge of collapse!

Russia may not collapse completely, since it will still have the people and land to fall back on. But, they're fighting a war they can't win. And their energy infrastructure will take decades to recover. Oil is the life-blood of any economy, and that's going the way of the dinosaurs.

So we will continue this war until the last Uke is dead."

In actuality, it's ALL the original members of the Russia military who are either dead or rendered 'unusable'. Ukraine still has most of their original armed forces going strong. And, there are people-in-the-know that put Ukraine's military in the super-power level now, with the Russian military becoming just another player. Ukraine now has the most powerful military in all of Europe, thanks to Putin.

I'm sure you'll be repeating them often over the next 10 years.

The truth bears repeating, especially when it's needed to debunk all the lies from the Russian side.

BTW, being in denial is not a winning strategy, and Putin and YOU are being in denial.

Russian civilians will get tired of sitting in cold, dark apartments in much less than ten years.

Lights out in suburban Moscow

I don’t think Russia wants all of the Ukraine, either. But, they built it - so they’re stuck with some part of it.

This “war” will end at the Dnieper, I expect.

Wherever and however it ends, Russia will not be the winner.

The Ukraine and Russia will resolve their differences.

Ukraine had no quarrels with Russia. It was Russia which craved Ukraine, and launched an ill-advisable invasion.

The former Soviet Union in Ukraine will be of no consequence.

There is no 'former Soviet Union' in Ukraine, and it's the renamed Soviet Union (Russian Federation) that will be of no consequence to any part of the world after the war ends. In fact, there might not even be a Russian Federation if sentiments around the remaining republics is correct, where many of those republics are angry and looking to split away from Russia.
