Trump administration's Europe troop drawdown fuels concern amid NATO allies, draws fire even from Republicans

NATO and some of America's allies in the transatlantic alliance have sought to ease concerns over the Trump administration's move to reduce the U.S. military's presence in Europe amid Russia's ongoing assault on Ukraine and as it's accused of ramping up hybrid warfare against NATO nations.

The Pentagon announced Thursday that it was reducing the number of U.S. troops deployed in Eastern Europe. U.S. officials told CBS News that around 700 U.S. airborne troops who have been deployed in Germany, Romania and Poland would come home and not be replaced.

In a statement, the U.S. Army Europe and Africa said it was part of Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth's "deliberate process to ensure a balanced U.S. military force posture," and "not an American withdrawal from Europe or a signal of lessened commitment to NATO and Article 5. Rather this is a positive sign of increased European capability and responsibility."

We have 84,000 military personnel in Europe. 700 is not even one percent.

The problem with Europe is, as long as we’re there, they won’t spend their own money on their own defense. There’s a simple reason. To keep the various religious and ethnic groups from revolting, they lard them down with social spending. Any decrease in that spending will cause social unrest and political upheaval. No sitting politician wants to deal with either of those. So as long as they don’t absolutely, positively have to spend their social funds on defense, they won’t. Exit the US and they either become Russia’s female dog, or they man their own defenses.

Will be interesting to see which. Don’t these countries have a ton of Muslims to deal with too?

It’s time to pull out of NATO and bring all of our troops in Europe home. Our existential threat is in the Pacific, not Europe. That Eurotrash isn’t worth one American life or one American dollar.

why defend Muslim territories? Our troops should not be there when the inevitable war with Islam occurs.

Japan Sends Air Force to NATO Bases As Threats Emerge on Multiple Fronts
“The deployment of the Japanese air force—its first mission to Europe and Canada—follows the conclusion of a British aircraft carrier’s operations in Northeast Asia.

Moscow, Beijing and Pyongyang, part of an authoritarian bloc known as the “Axis of Upheaval,” strongly oppose NATO’s reach into Asia, accusing the U.S.-led military alliance of inciting a new Cold War that undermines regional security and stability.”

I hope it means getting us out of NATO eventually. Europe wants to fight an endless war with Russia. There should be fewer American troops over there if that’s the game they are playing.

They must be rare to not want more help with the China threat.

“Will be interesting to see which. Don’t these countries have a ton of Muslims to deal with too?”

Some of the former Soviet Republics very aggressively told the EU to stuff their Muslim fetish. So, not all of them.
But yes. As the Emir of Qutar, Al Thani said, (I’m paraphrasing) The EU, for purposes of political correctness, has failed to deal with the Jihad. It will cause them no end of pain in the future.

I remember reading recently US had 800+ military bases/posts in foreign countries. No wonder nation debt is at $38,000,000,000,000.

They’ll have to deal with their native populations slaughtering the muzzies when the bennies run out. We need to pull everybody out and turn the place into a abattoir.

That’s 700 out of at least 75,000 stationed around Europe. Not a major draw down.

“700 is not even one percent.”

That number represents about 1 reinforced airborne battalion plus logistical elements attached for support. Total nothingburger in the larger scheme of NATO/US Forces-EUR.

We should get all of our forces out of Europe just as soon as we can. We do not need to be in the middle of the coming civil wars in France, Germany, or England.

We can certainly be diplomatic and say nice things about the increased "European stewardship of NATO", while we are leaving.

The ongoing Muslim conquest of Europe must be resisted by the Eastern European countries and Russia. The USA cannot save them this time.

WWII ended 80 years ago. The Soviet Union collapsed 34 years ago.

Who are we protecting there now?

Who do we plan to fight there now?

Why do we even need troops there now?
