Schumer’s Shutdown Starts to Bite
Powerlineblog ^ | October 27, 2025 | John Hinderaker

So far, I wouldn’t have noticed Chuck Schumer’s government “shutdown” if it hadn’t been in the newspapers. The government is still withholding money from my paychecks, so the shutdown is obviously less than complete. I don’t depend on SNAP or other government programs, although I sympathize with those who do.

But I do travel a lot, and the Schumer Shutdown is starting to affect air travel and, perhaps, air safety:

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) announced that flights to Los Angeles, California, were halted due to staffing shortages of air traffic controllers during the ongoing government shutdown, according to multiple reports.
***
Due to flights to Los Angeles being halted, airplanes “were held at their originating airports starting at 11:42 a.m. Eastern time,” with the FAA predicting that the halt would end around 1:30 p.m., according to the outlet.
***
The FAA’s announcement came after flights to locations such as Phoenix, Houston, and San Diego were also seeing delays on Friday due to staffing shortages, according to Politico. … Prior to this, flights at LaGuardia Airport in New York and Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey, among others, experienced delays as they also dealt with air traffic controller staffing issues, according to the outlet.

The wealthy Democrats who control that party also fly a lot. It won’t take a lot of cancellations and delays before they start putting pressure on Chuck Schumer to end his filibuster. The worst that could happen, of course, is a plane crash attributable to the Schumer Shutdown. As a very frequent flyer, I trust that won’t happen.

Too bad the airports aren't privatized - as they are in many other countries. Government shutdowns wouldn't affect them.

My son missed his flight out of LAX on Friday. Cancelled until noon the next day.

Schoomer should have stayed in his lane. The boy is a real screwup and Sandy Beach Ortiz has started picking out curtains with pineapples and palm trees on them for his office. “DAY-0!!!!!!!” Chucky. You’re toast.

At least some parts (maybe all?) of TVA are not funded by Congress. The utility boards and companies pay TVA.

Maybe they could set up something similar for the air traffic controllers.

I hadn’t noticed at all until yesterday, when I realized I haven’t been receiving food recall emails from the FDA . . . and I noticed only because a news report mentioned a recent recall.

Air traffic control might function through remote systems.

The Internet is very fast these days.

Work from home, or from a military base in case of ‘sick’ controllers, should be possible.

Air traffic control should be able to be handled through rules of the sky and simple app systems.

I would stop paying Congress, as well as those federal employees who are not working. Obviously, the military is an exception, and they remain on duty. However, any federal worker who is not clocking in each day should not be paid. I don’t get paid when I don’t show up for work. Why should they?

The airlines could put a pretty stewardess with $100 bills in her purse outside the air controllers’ door at the airport.

Federal cemetery 🪦 workers, start rotating off hours from what we understand. Supposedly to get their pay back though if/when shutdown ends.

The filibuster should have been gotten rid of in January.

Trump has the veto.

Unlike Burger King, you could have had it his way for four years.

Landing slots could be booked through a landing fee payment app.

This app could use GPS to find out where the pilot is. He would then figure out his departure time, with app suggestions, and specify his destination airport. The app could then take in weather information and plane type to figure out an optimal arrival time. He then be offered up a list of available times and then book one.

I would agree. I feel that if the Dumbocrats get back the Senate, they’ll get rid of it.

Before taking off, the pilot could check the radar via a Wi-Fi router placed near his runway access point.

Planes might take off at 10, 30, and 50 minutes after the hour, or up to 8 minutes afterward.

Schumer and his TDS-metastasized Demonicrat Senators don’t care about any crises they create or their giving aid and comfort to the domestic and foreign enemies of the United States. They would destroy the United States if it would help destroy President Trump.

And they know the Enemedia will cover for them, as they have been doing daily.

Congress seems to be the real bottleneck on this. Particularly the Democrats. I guess they are getting paid, but why should they?
