Donald Trump has threatened to cut Israel adrift if they annex the West Bank in an extraordinary escalation as the President demands peace in the Middle East.
Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu oppose annexation – but right-wing factions in Jerusalem see an invasion of the territory as a means to blocking Palestinian statehood.
'Israel would lose all of its support from the United States if that happened,' Trump told Time Magazine for a cover story released Thursday following the President's historic peace deal in Gaza.
'It won't happen because I gave my word to the Arab countries.'
JD Vance - who rushed to Israel this week amid renewed bombing of the Gaza Strip - rebuked the Israeli parliament today accusing it of a 'personal insult' after it voted for annexing the West Bank.
Speaking at Tel Aviv's airport before departing, the vice-president called the vote a 'very stupid political stunt'.
'I personally take some insult to it,' Vance added. 'The policy of the Trump administration is that the West Bank will not be annexed by Israel.'
Some speculate that the hard-liner's 25-24 symbolic vote was meant to embarrass Netanyahu while Vance was still in Israel.
It is unlikely that annexation would pass the multiple rounds of voting required to become law in Israel's Knesset, and Netanyahu has the ability to delay the proposal should it get that far.
And Trump told reporters during an event at the White House on Thursday: 'Don't worry about the West Bank. Israel is not going to do anything with the West Bank.'

Secretary of State Marco Rubio acknowledged before departing for Israel on Wednesday that the Knesset vote could jeopardize the agreement to bring an end to the war in Gaza.
'President Trump has already made it clear that we do not support such moves right now,' Rubio said. 'We are concerned about anything that could undermine what we are working on.'
I don’t get JD’s bluster about a personal insult. Annexing the West Bank is just some harmless froth coming from politicians to the right of Netanyahu. They are on a high since all the live hostages were returned.
JD’s actions in general make a lot more sense when you realize he’s kind of a crybaby.
Casting a formal vote like that while the VP of the United States is visiting the country IS a personal insult.
He didn’t really say he would cut all support.
Consider the source...
Israel has a Deep State, too...
It is not “harmless froth”. It was throwing a cog into the wheels trying to move to a lasting peace
Instead the focus should be the closing of madrassas and substituting nominally secular public education with an emphasis upon facts. Until that is done, Muslims praying five times a day will condition and motivate those children to religious violence. As cynical and "anti-religious" as that sounds, it is the correct step.
The Torah, as intended, is a very political document, albeit a humane one insofar as the treatment of a structural underclass is concerned. Israel should heed it, and the Orthodox challenged with it. I know this sounds radical, but it was a radical set of ideas from the beginning.
It’s not froth when the Fakistineans are eager to go back to bombing. “See what you made me do” is the game down there and someone needs to stop playing.
JD blew it. He just exudes weakness. He’s not formidable.
Your not an American nationalist, so it makes sense you don't get it.
Trump gets it though, which is what matters.
In addition, Trump, Vance, and Rubio, have silently condoned the thousands of War Crimes committed by the Hamas leadership against the nation of Israel.
They are acting in accord with the lobbying requests of Witkoff, Kushner, and almost every major American Jewish organization, all of which are committed to appeasement and the two-state solution. Bibi and the Knesset are in their way.
Skeptical? Now, after two years of war:

...America can play a central role in helping create the conditions for a lasting peace—including a negotiated two-state agreement between Israel and the Palestinians...
The use of the word “personal” was not good in this situation. “Not helpful” would have been better.
Are you claiming that Trump, Vance, and Rubio, have voluntarily surrendered our Middle East foreign policy to Witkoff, Kushner, and Hard Left American-Jewish organizations?
And, you support that arrangement?
"far-right"? You working for the NYTs now?
They wouldn't lose my support if they annexed the "west bank," btw.
Israel's Deep State is not on the Right.
The allergy of some on the Right to their counterparts in Israel simply makes no sense.
