New congressional district boundaries in eastern North Carolina counties received final legislative approval Wednesday, a week after the public first saw the new map.
State Republicans drew the plan at the behest of President Donald Trump. It seeks to make what is now the state’s only toss-up district unwinnable for a Democrat, bringing the state’s 14-member congressional delegation from 10 Republicans and four Democrats to 11 Republicans and three Democrats. The remaining Democratic districts are in the Triangle and in Charlotte.
Trump has asked states under Republican control to change district boundaries to help elect more members of their party to Congress. Trump seeks to avoid a midterm slump that would erect roadblocks to his agenda.
The House approved the maps 66-48 along party lines, following the Senate’s party-line approval Tuesday. Redistricting maps are not subject to veto by the governor, so they are now law.
“We’ll be sending another strong conservative to Washington to represent this great state,” said Rep. Brenden Jones (R-Columbus), the House Republican leader.
Rep. Jimmy Dixon (R-Duplin) said Trump is the greatest president of his lifetime, and lawmakers are doing the right thing by helping him continue to implement his vision for the country.
“I witnessed the divine intervention in preserving his life,” Dixon said. “He is a divinely changed man who loves this nation. I support the constitutional authority of this legislature to legally redraw our congressional districts.”
The gallery was cleared of protesters chanting about racist maps before the House vote.
The redrawn map dismantles a bloc of Black rural voters who have helped elect a Black Democrat to Congress since 1992. U.S. Rep. Don Davis, a former state Senator, overcame a stiff Republican challenge to win his second term last year.

in you’re face new scum
Who’s gonna win this battle...the GOP or the Rats?
Thats how Republicans should legislatate, just do it in their face and don’t even talk. It’s for the best for the state and country
Good for our side. Now we need to import twenty million illegal Conservative voters from around the world to see if the MSNBC and Washington Post stupid bimbos and pretentious ‘men’ catch that it’s packing the vote. I’m guessing it won’t tale decades for the little sh*ts in the press to figure it out...
Just wait til the Supreme Court makes their ruling in the next few months the Dems are going to lose another 15 seats
It’s said blue states have already gerrymandered the living daylights out of their districts and cannot squeeze much more.
Analyses from talk radio is the Republicans have an advantage in this fight.
The Democrat bile and angst about this is delightful.
But the district wasn’t really changed much at all. Enough to take it from D+1 currently (Charlie Cook says R+1 currently but he uses extremely limited data to generate his ratings) to something like R+3.
It is very far from certain that incumbent Don Davis (D) is going to lose in 2026, despite all the disingenuous liberal wailing that Davis is definitely “going home” after this term because Republicans are racist.
1 seat-big top.
Could be important. The rats would do the same thing.
Unlikely Don Davis will keep his seat in 2026. Even if that ends up being the case, he’ll lose it for sure in 2028.
The lawyers when the lawsuits are filed in 3...2...1
Excellent! Here in Charlotte I’m stuck in one of the 3 crappy blue districts but I’m glad to see Republicans are finally fighting back by gerrymandering just as hard as Democrats do.
Now we need to do the same in all red states.
It would seem to me that the GOP should get California District 11 since it is now scorched earth no longer infested with Cali lefties. Time for the GOP to Gerrymander CA District 11. All of the RAT voters that lived there are gone and won’t be voting there anymore.
After the 2022 election the North Carolina delegation was evenly divided, 7 Republicans and 7 Democrats. So they had already gained 3 seats.
This doesn’t give the GOP anything. It still takes a vote by the people of the district to put someone in office.
