Demolition begins on East Wing of White House for Trump’s new $250 million ballroom

Demolition began Monday on the East Wing of the White House to make way for President Trump’s massive new $250 million ballroom.

Photos provided to The Post show that construction crews have already ripped off the covered entrance that for decades greeted visitors going on tours or attending special events.

Windows facing the Treasury Department are smashed and half-off their hinges and the former upper-floor White House calligraphy office bears a gaping hole.

Video that circulated after the photos were snapped shows a large demolition machine reaching well into the structure to pull out rubble as a hose sprays water to minimize dust.

The East Wing, constructed in its current form in 1942, with a single-story predecessor dating to 1902, is one of the newest parts of the White House complex.

The wing historically has housed the first lady’s offices and sits atop a bomb shelter.

Trump is significantly lengthening the East Wing to the south to accommodate the new ballroom — with a number of trees already chopped down to make way for the addition.

Seems reasoned to want an adequate space to hold events.

I’m sure MSNBC and the usual suspects are reminding everyone
that Trump and others are paying for this, and not U S taxpayer Funds.

We’re the most prestigious country in the world. We should have a ballroom to host events for heads of state and dignitaries from around the world. Trump is making the Whitehouse great again. 😏

Sell some pieces as Souvenirs for a fundraiser!
Buy a brick, a piece of white painted wood, or other bits.
Very cool item to keep on the mantle at home.
Give to a local charity.

I cannot believe we made it the last 100 years without a grand gold plated ballroom where the rich and connected can dine, dance and drink Champagne. And thankfully, with Trump, you can be sure the decoration scheme will be tasteful and flawless.

It will surely lift America’s morale to know DC has a better venue for the DC glitteratzi to entertain.

People will forget about skyrocketing health insurance, the dollar plunging in value, dangerous big cities, etc. It’s exciting!

I was just there for a tour in May. For those unfamiliar, looking at the main entrance on Pennsylvania Avenue, you enter on the side street, to the left.
You through a parking lot, security, then come up along the very elevation shown in the photo. Go in through the east wing, and you go in a circle around the state rooms on the first floor. In actually remember remarking to my travel companion on how drab and nondescript that side of the east wing was. The ballroom is going to be a massive improvement

I have a little piece of the Berlin Wall on my fridge. I would have bought a piece of that ugly building just for fun.

“We’re the most prestigious country in the world. We should have a ballroom to host events for heads of state and dignitaries from around the world.”

Yes we have come a long way from 1801 when the newly inaugurated president Thomas Jefferson receive the British ambassador at the White House in everyday clothes and worn out slippers. It was known as the Merry Affair and is a great story. Link: https://boundarystones.weta.org/2017/01/10/merry-affair

So do you prefer the unpretentious dress and customs of the common citizen or the airs of self importance and finery of the wealthy upper classes? Jefferson chose the former. Trump chooses the latter. I personally stand with Jefferson who would have been shocked to see a $250 million ballroom erected in the White House no matter who was paying for it. Particularly with the nation $37 trillion in debt.

I believe Trump is paying for this himself. He's improving the White House and adding jobs for working people in the DC area. So what's the problem?

Bush-Clinton-Bush-Obama has had consequences..

Obama didn’t just go away. He spied on the next guy. He ran a shadow coup from DC with all his traitor friends on the next guy.
Then they stole an election from the next guy.
And installed his VP Biden as the puppet.
And had targeted lawfare against the next guy while he was out of office.

Then the next guy received a mandate to obliterate and drain from the People sick of Bush-Clinton-Bush-Obama era..

Don’t be too shocked if schiff in DC gets obliterated or drained on his watch..

First its a different time and the world is a different place. Second the $250 million is not coming out of the tax payers pockets. Even if it was it wouldn’t put much of a dent in the $37 trillion debt.

Again, the US is the leader of the world it won’t due for Trump to greet heads of state in buck skins with a couple of wild hogs on the spit and a jug of moonshine sitting on a picnic table. There is a time and place for formality. Its not pretentious is tending to the affairs of state.

It’s like any other gift given to the Whitehouse, except it won’t be easily moved to storage if a new president doesn’t like it.

Do you complain about other gifts the Whitehouse occupants have received?

“I personally stand with Jefferson who would have been shocked to see a $250 million ballroom erected in the White House no matter who was paying for it.”

My $2.8M home was built for $2800 in 1896. Those three extra zeros do not reflect any added value - it’s entirely the devaluation of the dollar.

So let’s remove those zeros from the $250M and see how shocked Thomas Jefferson would be. $250K is still a lot - but that’s 1896 dollars… what about going back another ninety years to Jefferson’s time? Can we knock off another zero and call it $25K? I don’t know.

I think President Jefferson would be impressed that President Trump was raising the money privately, rather than adding to the national debt.

.......

Wonder of Jefferson would be shocked that the President could get donors to improve any part of the wretched hive of scum and villainy DC after the 3 Branches of Govt enabled:

-They spied on citizen Trump’s campaign
-Russia Russia Russia
-Ukraine Ukraine Ukraine
-2 hoax impeachments
-Wuhan Coup Flu enabled stolen election
-Weaponized lawfare against citizen Trump while out of office
Then the victim of all that wins convincingly and now, it’s
- the Insurrection injunction by the Judicial Coup branch

Maybe Jefferson would be shocked to see any part of DC still standing...

Let alone being beautified while it deserves demolition.

Quite a long train of abuses and usurpations just since Trump came down an escalator..
