The Israeli army believes that Hamas has reestablished its hold over Gaza's governing institutions since the cease-fire went into effect on October 10.
Despite the population's dire situation and destruction from two years of war, the Israel Defense Forces have seen no significant opposition emerging or anti-Hamas protests.
Army sources said local gangs that Israel backed during the last phases of the war, in the hopes they could challenge Hamas rule, have disbanded and/or their members have been eliminated or removed from the scene. Many Hamas operatives have been seen shooting anyone who is seen as opposing the organization or was suspected of aiding Israel.

I doubt they’re surprised. I doubt anyone is honestly surprised.
If they weren’t surprised, then why weren’t ready ahead of time.
No one is surprised, not even President Trump.
What’s different is that all the Arabs are now on our side, at least for now. They’d rather have their trade and profits than have to shill for death cultists. When the IDF does what needs doing, it will not get the blowback that would have occurred before the cease fire.

My idea:
For each live hostage returned, Israel returns 30 people of its choice from the criminal list and 400 people of its choice from the non-criminal list.
For each hostage not returned alive by Friday 4pm EST, the remaining non-criminal prisoners will spend ten days in prison on average before release, but all shall be released within the number of months equal to the number of hostages not returned alive plus one.
For each dead hostage, Israel returns 10 people of its choice from the non-criminal list.
Israel will release one-by-one its choice of each remaining criminal at a rate equal to 120 hours times 48 divided by the number returned alive by Friday 4pm EST.
