Such a move, however, would mark a significant win for Trump and potentially increase momentum for a peace agreement.
resident Donald Trump on Wednesday stated that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi personally told him that his country would no longer purchase Russian oil.
Trump has pressured India and China to stop doing business with Russia in a bid to shut down its economy and force an end to the Ukraine War.
"He assured me today that they will not be buying oil from Russia," Trump said. "It's a big stop. Now, I've gotta get China to do the same."
The details of a planned stop have not become public and Modi does not appear to have made any such announcement as of press time.

p
And Europe. 😏
(Well done, Mr. President!)
Does China buy crude or do they buy refined products to reduce shipping costs? It will be interesting to see what that does to the spot price.
Wait, I thought Russia was out master?
hmmmm ...... could the author be bias ?
crude up .8%
not really moving the needle
Unfortunately nobody else shares any belief in Trump’s version of events. Putin is going to India in December. There is zero chance that India would stop buying Russian oil before that. Public opinion in India about the US has turned 180 degrees. From the US being the most liked country and a trusted friend to complete distrust. Modi is on his 3rd term, didn’t get there by discounting public opinion. You may see increased energy purchases from the US and some reduction in Russian oil purchase for a short time but not much more.
maybe you can also stop them from dumping all their excess labor on our job market too, Mr. President.
But I was assured by Hakeem Jeffries that Trump worked for Putin
Yahooeey—WWIII here we come!
India sells it all to the EU....So where’s the EU on this now...
“Modi does not appear to have made any such announcement...”
Good luck with China, they are part of the axis of evil along with Russia, and frankly I don’t trust India at all.
“maybe you can also stop them from dumping all their excess labor on our job market too, Mr. President”
I believe the $100,000 for an H-1b visa is taking care of that. But I suspect if there is going to be any legit stopping of buying Russian oil by India that will be there bargaining chip with PDT.
More Winning!
“crude up .8% not really moving the needle”
Agree as India is not quite agreeing with Trump...
India also uses a lot of the Russian oil for its own domestic needs. However, because it is buying it at such a large discount it gives them the ability to make a lot of profit by reselling the oil or turning it into Diesel and selling it to Europe or other countries.
India is also trans loading the oil onto another vessel OR blending it with oil from another source and then selling it to Europe or other destinations that have embargoed the purchase of Russian oil.
The Indian's MAY even be just changing the BOL to show the oil did NOT come from Russia. This is much more likely to be caught, BUT is the MOST profitable. Whenever there is a potential for the most profit, there is also more risk involved.
Good report lending useful insights. Thank you.

“On the question of whether there was a conversation or a telephone call between Prime Minister Modi and President Trump, I am not aware of any conversation yesterday between the two leaders,” said MEA Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal during the weekly press conference.
I find this very hard to believe because of the millions of dollars profit the Indians are making on this oil trade. Of course, a tariff on Indian goods to the USA will potentially cost them millions in less sales.
Does that mean the cost of a Mahindra tractor is going to be more expensive than a Kubota, Massey Ferguson, John Deere, Kioti, Yanmar, New Holland or the other tractor brands? Which are either made in South Korea or Japan and somewhat assembled in the USA.
