Republicans fume as Democrats block 9th GOP bid to reopen government

Senate Republicans tried and failed for the ninth time to reopen the government and are starting to believe that Senate Democrats won’t budge until next week.

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., and Senate Democrats again blocked the House-passed continuing resolution (CR) in their push for an extension of expiring Obamacare subsidies.

They argue that unless congressional Republicans and President Donald Trump come to the table and negotiate an extension to the expiring tax credits, they won’t provide Senate Majority Leader John Thune, R-S.D., the necessary votes to reopen the government.

Democrats also contend that unless Congress acts before Nov. 1, the start of open enrollment for Obamacare, also known as the Affordable Care Act (ACA), Americans who rely on the subsidies will see their healthcare premiums skyrocket. Still, their refusal to vote with Republicans to reopen the government has thrust the shutdown into its third week and is closing the window to negotiate an extension to the subsidies before the open enrollment deadline begins.

"With open enrollment around the corner, Republicans cannot continue to kick this can down the road," Schumer said. "It's happening now. The healthcare crisis is now."

And who created this so-called crisis, Senator Schumer? Who voted to pass Obamacare and cause this mess? Not a single Republican. Only you - and only the Democrats.

Of course let’s also add the fact that a continuing resolution has nothing to do with these Obamacare subsidies one way or the other.

“Senate Democrats won’t budge until next week.”

That is, until after their little “No Kings” toddler temper tantrum on Saturday.

“””That is, until after their little “No Kings” toddler temper tantrum on Saturday.”””

To which nobody pays any attention. When you constantly throw tantrums it just becomes background noise.

Republicans fume...

Hardly.

On the surface, yes, of course. But, under the covers, continue with draining the swamp, now clear of the inteference by dems, house, sinate. Oh, and btw, military continues to be paid and whole departments closed potentially permanently, while ordinary American's feel no difference in everyday life without a "federal government".

Play the sympathy card, but gut the bloated Federal government. Start with the TOTAL failure, the Dept. of Education.

Disgusted, but not at all surprised. Obstruction to progress: it’s what they do!

I just saw a false poll showing Americans faulting the Republicans for the shutdown. This a full court press by the media and the pollsters to cause $1.5 trillion of inflationary money to use for border jumper healthcare. That money is also money to buy the DemonKKKrat vote. That will also increase the cost of healthcare for Americans struggling to protect their families. When you look at it, money will come out of their pockets to buy the vote.

Well, now if I were the president of this land
You know, I'd declare total war on the Donkey Man
I'd cut him if he stands, and I'd tase him if he'd run
Yes, I'd kill him with my Bible and my razor and my club

God d**n, oh, the Donkey
God d**n the Donkey
I said God d**n
God d**n the Donkey Man...

Why is the GOP fuming? This is Chuck’s shutdown, and historic reductions are being effected in the bureaucracy.

IMHO it is time to invoke the Harry Reid Rule: The Senate can change the filibuster rules at any time with a simple majority vote of the Senators who are present at the time. Limit the filibuster of continuing resolutions to fund the government if the resolution does nothing more than continue to fund at the same rate as the last approved appropriations bill.

Someday there will once again be a democrat President and a democrat controlled Senate. The democrats will likely invoke the Harry Reid Rule to limit the filibuster even more. However, they will do that regardless of what the Republicans do now. Last years the democrats were screaming to abolish the filibuster entirely. Chances are they will do so again.
