The Conservatives improved on their prior showing by 6 points, and beat the average of the pre-election polls by 7 points. It was nip and tuck all evening. The late-counted vote just kept breaking in favor of the Tories to give them the upset victory.

Oxymoron of the Day: Progressive Conservatives.
That’s like saying: Law & Order Liberals.

Reminds me a bit of the political party in Iran, which was known as the Islamic Republican party. That party was pushing Iran towards being a theocracy. Their political ideology hardly tied in with Republican political values as we know them.

And let’s also remember the Institutional Revolutionary party in Mexico. How can a political organization be both institutional/status quo, and revolutionary at the same time?

They’re Canadians, the ones who thought pineapple pizza was good. What else can you expect?

Never thought I’d see the day when the leftists would lose anything in the Maritimes.

Progressive Conservatives...

Is that the same thing as RINO?

Sounds like GOP Senator Lisa Murkowski from Alaska.

Maybe Progressive Conservatives only live in cold climates?

The Conservative Party merged with the Progressive Party in 1942. When the Progressive Conservatives merged with the Canadian Alliance (formerly the Reform Party) in 2003 they dropped “progressive” from their name, but not all of the provincial parties went along, so some provinces (Manitoba, Ontario, and the four Maritimes) still have Progressive Conservative Parties in provincial and local politics.

Canadian politics are weird that way in that provincial and national parties aren’t tied together. For a long time the Liberal Party of British Columbia was the province’s more conservative party. The Tories didn’t have much of a following there. The socialist New Democratic Party was the liberal/progressive opposition.

That goes by the old Soviet rules,e.g. any country that has “People’s Republic” in its name is neither Popular or Republican.

If conservatives become reactionaries to bring back Labrador to its old ways would they be Labrador retrievers?

Spent last week in Newfoundland - pretty cool place, and not typical “Canadia”.

Canadians had exposure to British politics, French culture, and American technology. They adopted French politics, American culture, and British technology.

== From a 1980’s documentary, when Muslims had less influence over the British and French.

“Wtf is a “progressive conservative?””

Easy - a conservative that will do EVERYTHING that the liberals want, only more so. The UK just had a run of that, ‘conservative’ after ‘conservative’ leader who opened the flood gates even more than the liberals did, along with being the ones to outlaw gasoline/diesel cars.

At least in this case, you know they suck even BEFORE you vote for them.

Canadian politics is hard to understand to me.
Liberals rule on the top, but most provinces are run by the opposition!

My mom was from Newfoundland, so of course I spent quite a bit of time there. Newfoundlanders are some of the nicest people you will ever come across. I was there this past summer and the only people who wanted to fight with me about American politics were tourists from Ontario and British Columbia!
