“Early this morning, the execution of Roy Lee Ward was carried out, delivering accountability for the brutal rape and murder of 15-year-old Stacy Payne on April 16, 2001,” said Indiana Attorney General Todd Rokita in an an early Friday statement. “Following his 2007 conviction and death sentence, Ward’s case was thoroughly reviewed, culminating in the Indiana Supreme Court setting his execution date and Governor Mike Braun rejecting his request for clemency.”

18 years is actually fast for an execution.
“The governor previously disclosed that state officials spent $1.175 million on lethal injection doses over the past year — $600,000 of which was spent by former Gov. Eric Holcomb’s administration on drugs that expired before use. The cost has been between $275,000 and $300,000 per dose.”
I’m sure the street price is considerably better...
This is not justice....this along with every death penalty case is just an elongated period of despair for the victims families..
I am surprised that his attorneys were not able to get a judge to stay the execution.

The victims were dead right away and the killers shot hoops, surfed the prison computers, watched TV and movies, did a little reading and complained about the food variety served three times a day. With dental care, medical care and physical rehab if needed.

I agree. A death penalty delayed for years or decades is NOT a deterrent.
One that is carried out swiftly and publicly after a fair trial IS a deterrent.

Actually 24 years. Why does it take so Kong to execute murders? Is the state hoping they’ll die of old age?
Why do so many condemned inmates seem to be named “Lee”, “Earl”, or “Wayne”?
