Washington is Sleepwalking Toward Nuclear Armageddon
American Thinker ^ | October 13, 2025 | Brian C. Joondeph

In 1914, Europe stumbled into a war no one wanted and few understood;a war that destroyed empires and redefined civilization.

Today, Washington risks repeating that mistake, this time with nuclear weapons on the table. Through arrogance, ignorance, or incompetence, the United States is drifting toward direct confrontation with Russia, the world’s largest nuclear arsenal, with consequences that could be apocalyptic.

President Trump last week said he has “sort of” made a decision about supplying Tomahawk cruise missiles to Ukraine or NATO allies.

He wants to learn more about “what they are doing with them” before making a final decision. His goal is to avoid escalating the conflict, but his words suggest he is doing anything but.

Is Trump posturing, playing 5-D chess as some claim, or joining the warmongering wing of the GOP?

Recent developments in Ukraine point to an alarming erosion of Western deterrence.

Russian Iskander tactical ballistic missiles, the short-range workhorses of the Kremlin’s arsenal, are reportedly reaching their targets with increasing accuracy, potentially in the 90% range based on Patriot missile interception rates.

According to open-source analyses, the Iskander’s circular error probability (CEP) may now be as tight as 10–20 meters when guided by optical seekers, compared to 200 meters with inertial-only systems. This level of precision makes even subsonic versions deadly against fixed military targets.

Meanwhile, Ukraine’s air defense network is struggling. The Financial Times recently reported that Russian missile upgrades have sharply reduced Patriot missile interception rates from roughly 37 percent in August 2025 to just 6 percent in September 2025.

Analysts at the Center for European Policy Analysis (CEPA) noted that intercepting six Iskanders can require 12–18 PAC-3 missiles, costing between $48 million and $72 million per engagement. Ukrainian stocks are depleted faster than they can be replenished.

Every Patriot missile fired in...

Not sure why Russia would resort to nukes when no one else is.

Those fags are pretty sensitive, aren’t they?

Needless to say, giving Tomahawks to Ukraine will kill any chance the President has of Nobel Peace Prize.

Doing so, will force Russia to escalate and do what is necessary to end the war, like taking out Ukraine's electric grid and flooding Europe with refugees.

Doubling down on Biden's failed strategy and pushing us closer to WW III and nuclear war is the opposite of what Trump campaigned on.

Hopefully, this is nothing but rhetoric to keep the neocons in Congress in line.

If Russia is winning and invincible, why would they resort to nuclear weapons?

It is a poor argument, because the situation is complicated and war is fluid.

I post it for those who say: If Russia is weak, why would Europe be worried about Russian aggression?

I respectfully disagree. Germany was chompin' at the bit for a chance for another war (after Franco-Prussian War decades prior). IMHO, even with the pre-WW1 treaties, the crisis of 1914 (assassination of Archduke Ferdinand) would have been a mainly regional war if Germany didn't exacerbate the problem to make it into a broader European war.

Fast forward to today. Nobody wants nuclear war like Germany wanted another European war.

Trump wants to sell products. To Europe.

He’ll tell them what they need to hear to write checks.

To date, I have not heard of them placing any orders at Raytheon with an advance deposit. There will also have to be cancellation penalties for such orders.

I don’t think Europe will do it. They won’t have their ECB create money in order to send it to the US. Instead, they will want to develop their own weapons and spend on those.

At which point Trump would necessarily lose interest in the matter.

You ask, “why would they resort to nuclear weapons?” Because Tomahawks can be fitted with both conventional and nuclear payloads. When Russian radar detects a Tomahawk’s signature, there’s no way to know which it’s carrying.

Not sure why Russia would resort to nukes when no one else is.

What would the USA do if Russia started supplying Mexico with nuclear-capable long range missiles they used to strike deep within the USA?

You don't know if a Tomahawk heading toward you has a nuclear warhead until it detonates.

Biden’s strategy like Obama’s was to let Russia walk right into Ukraine...even encourage it.

Russia wouldn’t give nukes to Mexico—a failed state but she might to Cuba or Venezuela. One Nuke to take out the Panama Canal, and one to knock out Norfolk Naval Base. Better yet, establish a naval base in the Americas and base a ship with rockets at that place.

What an interesting post, and what an interesting thread this is likely to become.

Given that the article is written by Brian Joondeph, a thoughtful physician and posted to Thomas Lifson's site, it's sentiments are at least thought provoking to some.

It is certain that among Freepers, there will be pushback against the post and article, for we have a few willing to "push the big red button."

I would rather the world end in nuclear war than yield to Little Pukin.

Maybe, maybe not. The prize is named after the guy who invented dynamite. (I think)(could be an urban legend)(I'm sure at least 20 FReepers will inform me)

'Couse, dynamite can be used for peaceful purposes. Like blowing things up just for the sake of watching things blow up.

Obviously the same can be said of nuclear power. You just need to stand farther back. And wear welding helmet grade sunglasses.

Not sure if there is a peaceful use for tomahawk missiles. Unless there's some way Russia and Ukraine can strike each other's government simultaneously. 🤔
