The ex-Chancellor, long accused of appeasing Vladimir Putin, has claimed her neighbours were at fault for the war.
...The ex-Chancellor told Partizan: “In June 2021, I felt that Putin was no longer taking the Minsk Agreement seriously, and that’s why I wanted a new format where we could speak directly with Putin as the European Union.
“Not everyone supported this, above all the Baltic states, but Poland was also against it."
Merkel added that she felt those states were "afraid" that an EU-wide consensus on how to deal with Russia would not be agreed on.
She added: “In any case, it did not happen, I left office, and then Putin’s aggression began."
...The ex-Chancellor, who has been accused of appeasing Russia by critics and former allies alike, also blamed the COVID-19 pandemic for the invasion of Ukraine.
Former Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki called Merkel "the most harmful German politician to Europe in the last century," blaming her for Nord Stream 2 and energy weaponization that fueled Russia's war machine. Polish MEP Waldemar Buda said her "agreement with Putin" would have partitioned Ukraine. Current officials, like former ambassador Katarzyna Pełczyńska-Nałęcz, labeled it "absurd" and propaganda-fueling.
Spokesman Dmitry Peskov praised it, claiming the EU is "held hostage by the Baltic states and Warsaw’s rabid policies"—highlighting how Merkel's words align with Moscow's narrative that the West provoked the invasion.

Merkel shut down safe German nuclear power plants, making them utterly dependant on russian oil and gas. She invited the Muslims to r@p& Germany, and she gave Putin all the signals to invade.
She also heavily opposed and mocked President Trump during his first term.
She is outing herself as a Kremlin mole
Directly contradicting Merkel, former Latvian Prime Minister Krišjānis Kariņš said on Monday that at the time, many countries had not understood Russia, “including Germany and the former chancellor herself.
“I consistently told her that you cannot deal with Putin ‘in good faith,’ but she believed that the Baltic states were wrong. I was well aware of Merkel’s views, but I am astonished that after everything that has happened in Ukraine, she still thinks this way,” Kariņš said.
“Putin acts the way he acts, and the only options for the West are either to submit or to resist. It is surprising that the former German chancellor would say something like this today, when it should be obvious to everyone what kind of regime Russia is. I am glad that the new German chancellor, Friedrich Merz, does not share Merkel’s views,” he said

My father, amongst many other words of wisdom, told me “Never trust an East German.”
A cancer dedicated to destroying her homeland dedicated to making her fellow Germans suffer because of misdirected guilt and thrilling like a pyromaniac at the ruination of a spire of civilization.
she’s just a criminal a-hole — so there’s that
She also went crawling to her bud The Putin when the Ukrainians in Debaltseve got surrounded in 2015.
The woman is bizarre.
Is she really bizarre ?? For people like you and I, she is bizarre, perhaps she is acting rationally is you believe she’s a communist at her core.
She was raised in East Germany, she’s been exposed to and lived in a totalitarian society under Soviet control, now she refuses to blame Putin for anything and continually puts the blame on her supposed friends and allies.
Look at her actions, she’s taken the economic powerhouse of the EU and neutered it, she opened the borders to the Islamic horde, gutted conventional energy sources which is deindustrializing the biggest economy in the EU and now is blaming everyone but Putin for the war.
If you view her as an ally of Putin instead of an ally to the West and NATO, then she’s acting rationally.
The West, not having lived under Communism, got spoiled in their affluence. This is by no means limited to Germany.
The East, who did suffer, learned a hard lesson. If the West is to be saved, it will be the East who saves it.
“She is outing herself as a Kremlin mole”
I always thought that. During her entire time as German chancellor, her decisions were invariably aligned with Russia’s interests. There was a photo of her as a teen in the Soviet Union at some kind of young commie powwow. She was likely recruited to infiltrate Helmut Kohl’s CDU, and that “sleeper” plan succeeded in a huge way.
She also spilled about Minsk II - “Merkel stated that the Minsk agreements were an attempt to “buy time” for Ukraine to strengthen its military and economy.”
One also has to look at her actual ACTIONS, which you mentioned.
Rational people assume that elected leaders of country try to advance the best interests of the people of the country that elected them.
For people like Merkel, she vocally supports the interests of Germans, except her actions say otherwise.
Agreed, but far more to destroy in former West Germany than the east, even 40 some-odd years later.
When I was first in [1961 West] Germany, signs were everywhere reading, “Deutschland im drei geteilt, NIEMALS.”
(”Germany divided into three parts, NEVER.”)
I never got a satisfactory explanation. What did those signs mean?
