Trump Orders Troops to Get Paid on October 15 Despite Shutdown

President Donald Trump has ordered Secretary of War Pete Hegseth to use “all available funds” to pay troops on Oct. 15.

The federal government shut down on Oct. 1 because U.S. lawmakers couldn't pass a funding bill.

Trump blamed Democrats for the shutdown. He didn't say what funds the government plans to use to pay the troops.

"We have identified funds to do this, and Secretary Hegseth will use them to PAY OUR TROOPS. I will not allow the Democrats to hold our Military, and the entire Security of our Nation, HOSTAGE, with their dangerous Government Shutdown. The Radical Left Democrats should OPEN THE GOVERNMENT, and then we can work together to address Healthcare, and many other things that they want to destroy. Thank you for your attention to this matter!"

White House Secretary Karoline Leavitt White House reposted the news on X.

Congresswoman Jenn Kiggans, R-VA, thanked Trump and called for lawmakers to reopen the federal government.

So far, Democrat lawmakers have voted at least eight times to keep the government shuttered, according to U.S. House Speaker Mike Johnson.

Democrats have now voted EIGHT TIMES to BLOCK pay for our troops and federal workers.

Chuck Schumer and Senate Democrats think every day of this shutdown “gets better” for them — even as it hurts hardworking Americans.

Once again, Democrats are putting AMERICANS LAST.

Trump has already announced plans to pay WIC from tariffs income. I suppose it’s doable to pay ICE and the military. He is not going to let the demagogue party wing this one.

Sorry to rain on your parade, but Trump’s Constitutional authority as commander-in-chief does not grant him the authority to spend money that is not appropriated by Congress.

RE: Sorry to rain on your parade, but Trump’s Constitutional authority as commander-in-chief does not grant him the authority to spend money that is not appropriated by Congress.

Well, let’s see….

The main question is — does the President have the authority to use unobligated funds from previous year, and repurpose them for military pay during a shutdown without explicit congressional approval?

President Trump directed Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth to use “all available funds” to pay troops on October 15, despite the shutdown.

The Pentagon reportedly identified unobligated funds from prior fiscal years—such as leftover research and development money—to cover the payments.

This maneuver is legally murky. It hinges on whether those funds were already appropriated for flexible use and whether their reallocation complies with existing law.

Supporters claim it’s a necessary workaround to protect national security and troop welfare.

In essence, Trump’s directive may be a temporary workaround, not a constitutional override. It’s a high-stakes example of executive-legislative tension during shutdowns.

But practically, what are Democrats going to do? File a challenge in the courts to stop Trump from paying the troops? How popular will such a move be? And by the time it reaches the Supreme Court, the shutdown might be over.

Previous Republicans, Bush 43, Bush 41, Reagan "followed the rules" and look at where that got us today.

The Left was able to take over all the important institutions in USA in the past couple of decades.

Not sorry to rain on your parade, but....

watch him.

Trump will follow through on this, much to your chagrin, no doubt.

Trump: “We have identified funds to do this, and Secretary Hegseth will use them to PAY OUR TROOPS. I will not allow the Democrats to hold our Military, and the entire Security of our Nation, HOSTAGE, with their dangerous Government Shutdown.”

I was active duty from 1972 to 1994.

I got screwed several times by the ‘shutdown’ crap. The local on-base credit union would offer ‘bridge’ loans at a low rate for folks that needed rent and food money.

Maybe if CONgress had their pay cut - and no backpay - this might cease.

Playing chicken with other people’s lives is BS.
