The Russia-Ukraine War Belongs to Russia and Ukraine
The American Conservative ^ | July 31st, 2025 | Doug Bandow

Posted on 10/04/2025 2:07:36 PM PDT by Mariner

fter barely six months in office, President Donald Trump has gone from peacemaker to warmonger. He attacked Iran and is threatening more strikes, bombarded Yemen’s Ansar Allah militants on behalf of Israel and Europe, is encouraging the former to conquer Gaza, and is increasing U.S. involvement in the Russia-Ukraine cataclysm.

War with Russia is the most immediate danger. Its invasion of its neighbor was a tragedy, but requires U.S. avoidance, not involvement. Throughout most of America’s history, Ukraine has been ruled from Moscow. The Ukrainian people have long suffered under that relationship, but Washington never considered going to war on Kiev’s behalf. Ukraine matters far more to Europe than America, and, as Trump has admitted, the current conflict was fueled by Washington’s multiple broken promises not to expand NATO to Russia’s borders. U.S. interests would be best served by cutting off fuel for the conflict, with its dangerous potential of escalating into a nuclear confrontation.

Trump has offered no compelling explanation for his stunning volte-face, with his plan to further empty American military arsenals for Kiev and impose additional economic sanctions on Moscow. He has advanced neither the impossible case that American security is at risk nor the implausible claim that Moscow plans to conquer the rest of Europe. What else could justify incurring nuclear risks that he long warned against?

One of his chief hawkish critics, former National Security Council staffer Fiona Hill, has inadvertently detailed how little is at stake for America. She complained that Trump believes the conflict is “just about real estate, about trade and who gets what, be it minerals, land or rare earths” and doesn’t understand that Russian President Vladimir Putin “doesn’t want a ceasefire. [He] wants a neutered Ukraine, not one that is able to withstand military pressure. Everybody sees this, apart from Trump.”

And this declaring war with Russia and China through Venezuela needs to be nipped in the bud before he puts us at extreme risk. He is going to give them the excuse they need to come defend Venezuela with nukes... Just two ICBM subs parked down there and we are in serious trouble. Whether we are right or wrong will not matter one bit. They will still be parked there and be a very serious threat from here on.

He is literally inviting the foxes into the hen house... He needs to take a slow down and double think that one...

Our elites in power however think preservation of the empire is vital and have different thoughts about things and unfortunately they are the ones in power. What happened to Trump? Well he is 80 years old and surrounded by the neocons in his cabinet so I’m afraid he’s relented to their wishes. Also I’m starting to suspect they may have some dirt on him.

NATO and the West pounded Yugoslavia into oblivion….the outcome? The West forced a Yugoslavia break up according to ethic territory.

The same should be done in Ukraine, the ethnic Russian provinces ( Lughansk, Donetsk, Kherson, Zaparhoznia and Crimea ) will in the end be declared Neuvo Russia….OR carve Ukraine up and give Hungary, Poland, Romania, Slovakia and Russia their historic territories back.

Do realize Ukraine has been an independent country only since 1991,….how’s that for a lasting Peace?

Turkey, that wacky NATO member....

"Tupras, Türkiye's largest oil refiner, has resumed purchases of Russian Urals crude oil, trading sources said, marking a shift from its earlier halt on imports following strengthened U.S. sanctions.

According to three trading sources speaking to Reuters and shipping data reviewed once again by Reuters, Tupras restarted imports in April after Urals crude prices dropped to their lowest levels since 2023—comfortably below the G7 nations' price cap of $60 per barrel.

Turkey desires to be the best paid, non-producing, middleman in the hawking of Eastern European natural gas and Petroleum products.

Ukraine and Germany have already tried to control that same position. Both have had their infrastructure and economy adjusted because of the attempt.

This is not a war between Russia and Ukraine...this is a long war against Europe for Russia that was started with Ukraine...and if successful will continue to many other Countries in Europe.

You left out that when Ukraine gave up its nukes Russia guaranteed Ukraine’s safety.

The UN is just a straw man for Russia. They were saying they don’t want the UN on their borders. Well, if they take over Ukraine the UN WILL be on their border for sure!
