Plaintiffs unable to prove racial gerrymandering

Two voters lacked standing and, additionally, failed to show how Blacks were weakened by maps for the North Carolina Senate, a federal judge has ruled.

“Plaintiffs ignore the progress that North Carolina has made over the past 60 years and seek to use Section 2 to sort voters by race in order to squeeze one more Democratic Senate district into the map,” wrote Judge James Dever of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of North Carolina.

The ruling in Rodney D. Pierce and Moses Matthews v. The North Carolina State Board of Elections, et al. says racial gerrymandering did not happen in the northeastern part of the state for a North Carolina Senate map. Moses Matthews and Rodney Pierce, the latter now a member of the House of Representatives, did not live in the district, Dever said, nor did their evidence show voting strength of Blacks losing strength because of the map.

Thank you very much and God bless you.

"Even in Congress, Dever pointed out, the northeastern part of the state has had a Black representative since 1992 – including Rep. Don Davis today in 2024’s only U.S. House race with both candidates less than 10% apart."

I honestly don’t see how district maps are even relevant anymore. Racial ghettos are not legal and are a thing of the past. Every effort has been made to “mix up” communities with minorities for over 40 years. It’s a dead subject.

I remember working on a very nice apartment complex in a nice suburb of Minneapolistan. This place was top of the line. One day I asked the manager why I was seeing so many ratty cars in the parking lot of an expensive place. He said in order to build the place they had to agree to give about 20% of the units to Section 8’s.

“voting strength of Blacks” — it pisses me off they even write that. Why do blacks need black faces in Congress or State Houses? It’s preposterous that any person elected to Congress, whether black, red, yellow, tan or white, doe not represent everybody in the district. This is not Reconstruction or Jim Crow.

A new 2-story “Habitat for Humanity” project near me (in the Florida Keys) has boats on trailers and new Cadillacs/Lexus in the driveways.

You can afford toys when you get a free house because you are “poor”.
