Congressional leaders continue blame game as clock ticks toward shutdown

In remarks on the Senate floor Tuesday, party leaders continued to point fingers at one another as time ticked closer to the midnight deadline for the government to shut down if Congress can't pass a funding measure.

"Republicans have offered up a clean nonpartisan funding extension, the same kind of extension Democrats have repeatedly supported in the past and Democrats are blocking it for their own partisan purposes," Senate Majority Leader John Thune said.

Thune again made a pitch for a "clean" bill that extends funding through mid-November.

"We can pass this today. We can pass it right now all you have to do is get support form the Democrats. The House has passed this," Thune said.

But Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer held firm to his belief that Republicans will own this shutdown for refusing to negotiate with Democrats on health care priorities.

"They call it clean we call it extremely partisan. Not one discussion, House or Senate, between the two leaders. That is not how you negotiate and that is not how you pass appropriation bills," Schumer said.

EVERYONE knows the Democrats will have to eat a big pile of greasy crap over this.

But their base insists they do so.

That’s right, ABC. Its a “both sides” “blame game” as if Republicans are at fault too. An honest headline would be that the Dems are forcing a shutdown to force the government to pay for medical care for illegals.

No reason to budge an inch on this.

Shutdown is good.
Reduction in Force is better.
Let the Democrats stew in the mess they have made.

Trump has Schumer and Jeffries all in on a losing hand. I will be disappointed if there isn’t a shutdown at this point.

We should start government back up with 10% of the employees, today.

Then work on further reductions.

Shutdown allows Schumer......to show a little “fight.”

Schumer supported the last CR in Feb-March, and received HOLY HELL from Ocrazio-Cortex and her ilk.

Besides the usual creepy reasons, Schumer is putting up a "fight" is that he knows Ocrazio-Cortex is come after his Senate seat.

The House passed a Continuing Resolution.

Senate Democrats, under Chuck “Lizard King” Schumer want to load it up with pork for illegal aliens.

Shutdown is entirely the democRATs’ fault.

Trump wants the shutdown to implement a major RIF. The Dems realize that they have painted themselves into a corner. They are between a rock and a hard place. Do they force a shutdown to please their base, but open the way for Trump to make major reductions in the size of government?

Trump to Schumer: “Go ahead punk, make my day.”

The Oregonian (OregonLive) always as a shutdown article ready for print. In every shutdown, they have highlighted a single mom with a young child, who’s life is being devastated by the shutdown.

For the ....nth time, this is just theatre.
