Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered 135,000 men to be conscripted into the army, the largest autumn draft held by the Kremlin in nine years.
“From Oct. 1 to Dec. 31, 2025, conscript 135,000 Russian citizens aged 18 to 30 who are not in the reserve and are subject to enlistment into military service,” the decree states, according to the TASS state-owned news agency.
Vladimir Tsimlyansky, head of the Russian General Staff’s mobilization department, has also insisted that the conscripted soldiers will not be deployed to the forces currently invading Ukraine, a promise Moscow has been previously accused of breaking.

This is the standard conscription that happens twice per year, every year. Every Russian male aged 18 - 30 is subject to a mandatory year of service if they have not already served or are otherwise exempt.

The only thing keeping it running for the tourists (I came in from a trip to Tbilisi before Putin invaded that country) were the Indians. Not that Outin cares. Without Putin’s invasion, those soldiers would be doing something productive for their country. Too bad Putin values their lives so little, as he values his megalomaniac ambitions more.
Vice Admiral Tsimlyansky says they won’t be sent to Ukraine. I believe that in Russian law draftees cannot be sent to a combat zone against their will, no?
Think of the impact here if the little losers calling themselves Antifa had to serve. Don’t give the little terrorists guns, just send them places where US troops need to be seen but never fight.
There are many ways to get them to agree. The army could offer large sums of money, or they could give them free vodka and tell them when they wake up the next morning they have volunteered.

This is correct. For decades, Russia with its universal conscription (like Switzerland, btw) has drafted young men into the military. They receive 1 year of training. Shoot and salute sort of training. Physical fitness. Chain of command. And my recall is post basic, some Tech School equivalent introduction.
Then the year passes and they are returned to civilian life and added to the Reserves. They can be mobilized from the Reserves at a later date, but it is not automatic.
Because this happens every year, there is an estimated 15 million Reservists accumulated and available for mobilization. (Mobilization has the definition of “activation of Reserves”).
About this sort of subject, it is best to ignore all information sources that post-date 2022. The above is multi decade norm.
Putin is doing to Russia what WWl did to England, eliminating most of the male population between ages 15 and 40. Maybe the women, too. Soon enough the draft for the Front will include young women which will exacerbate the birth rate problem.

That is like the draft we should have here. All men at age 17, if sound of body and kind of sound of mind, should be drafted for 6 months of basic military training, no deployment. At the end of 6 months those that are deemed the best 10̀% should be given the option of immediate enlistment, The rest forbidden to enlist for 6 months or one year post draft/basic. That will provide a pool of young men with minimal need for basic training in a war situation and the fear of being put behind those who go to college to avoid service will disappear as will the fear of joining the unfamiliar. No wartime draft whould even be necessary. In a rapid wartime buildup the recruiters will be swamped and there will be no Vietnam War type riots. Something like that worked in Turkiye before Erdogan.
Putin is going down and he’s taking the once great country of Russia with him.
