EU and NATO Consider Denying Russia Baltic Access
Oilprice.com via Yahoo ^ | September 29th, 2025 | Cyril Widdershoven

The northern European countries are currently embroiled in a Russian hybrid warfare attempt, a situation that demands immediate and decisive attention. Denmark, a member of both the EU and NATO, is set to host a European Union Summit in Copenhagen this week, with the primary focus on Russian aggression in Ukraine and its hybrid warfare tactics. The Danish transportation ministry has already taken steps to ban all civilian drone flights in Danish airspace, underscoring the urgency of the security situation. Norwegian, Swedish, Finnish, and other Baltic Sea region countries are currently under threat from drone attacks linked to the Russian naval presence in the region, or originating from Russian or dark fleet vessels.

The current crisis has again pushed EU and NATO members to reassess options to counter these developments, including a complete blockade of the seas for Russian assets. Current EU, UK, and US sanctions on Russia are already impacting Putin’s revenues, but Moscow still holds access to the seas, particularly Baltic outlets. Growing calls are being heard for a blockade of the Baltic Sea and its gateways, seen as a measure that could hurt Putin severely. The options are on the table; however, the risks and rewards remain unclear. What is clear, however, is the need for a coordinated EU/NATO response.

The Baltic Sea and its gateways—including the Skagerrak, Kattegat, Danish Straits, and Øresund—are not only narrow waterways but also vital maritime arteries for commerce, energy, and communication. These routes connect Northern and Central Europe to global markets, making them strategically important. The growing threat of Russian interference in these areas is a cause for concern.

There are no quotes or other citations to support this assertion from a normally reliable publication.

But if it is true, the world will have war.

NATO cutting St. Petersburg off from the sea.

The EU can do whatever it wants. Not our business.

But NATO is our business. Keep NATO completely out of this. No NATO flags. No NATO organizations. Fly the EU flag, use EU forces, and let the EU handle what comes next.

This should work out well, ... for earthworms.

Then again, maybe not even them.

Blockade = act of war in anybody's book.

Might as well just get it over with. Moscow and Kiev will be smoking craters, but just as long as London, Paris, DC, NYC, LA, and Chicago are as well, then maybe it's worth it. 300 million combined dead from all the nations involved, tops.

Plenty of people left over to start anew.

In Sweden a man in his forties was arrested yesterday, in the northern coastal town of Sundsvall for flying a drone close to the local airport and stopping the air trafic for about an hour. However, nothing in the news of any Russian connections. The newspapers just report that he is suspected of aviation negligence, minor drug offences and flying under the influence of alcohol. In all likelihood a Swedish man who was playing around with his drone and had too much to drink, totally unaware that he may help to start a world war.

Yup.
Europe is free to get clobbered by the Russians.
Got nothing to do with America.

The Rump UK Empire and Davos are desperate to have a war, and drag the USA into it.

Trump bouncing back-and-forth between disgust and respect for Zelensky, and “Ukraine can’t win” to “Ukraine can take back all the 1991 territory” is only encouraging them.

Maybe its 4D chess.

Or maybe its as chaotic as it seems.

What if Europe simply wants Russia to Nuke the United States so they can get cheap gas from Russia?

Turkiye can block access to the Black Sea because the strait goes right through their territory. I think, due to the war, they’ve already blocked military vessel throughway.

I presume the straits through Denmark and Sweden can go the same way.

EU and NATO Consider Denying Russia Baltic Access

This would be an act of war. Do we really want to go there?

Cutting off Russian access to it own territory in Kaliningrad would be an act of war.

The goal, of course, is to try and trigger Article 5 and get us involved in a hot war with Russia.

United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS):
Under UNCLOS, the Baltic Sea is considered an open sea, allowing for navigation and maritime trade.
