Zohran Mamdani was not asking for an endorsement. This seemed wise.
Because Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez was not offering.
But sitting last year, at Mr. Mamdani’s request, at a kebab house in Queens — where he shared that he would like to be mayor of New York City — the nominal very-long-shot hoped that the national very-big-shot might at least think well of the idea.
“It all started in a similar way that my race had started,” Ms. Ocasio-Cortez recalled at a joint rally many months later. “We don’t have an entire political establishment behind us. But we know that running is the right thing to do.”
In fact, at the time, Ms. Ocasio-Cortez was not behind him. And some in her life doubted that Mr. Mamdani’s campaign was the right thing to do. .. Sensitive to the stakes for both New York’s voters and for her own political and policy aims, Ms. Ocasio-Cortez has privately stressed that Mr. Mamdani’s performance in office would invariably be viewed as a referendum on progressive politics nationally, enshrining their city as the epicenter and proving ground for a movement.
Earlier in the summer, Ms. Ocasio-Cortez shepherded Mr. Mamdani around Washington for a good-will meet-and-greet, introducing him to lawmakers stunned at his victory and discussing lessons from his primary.
Publicly and privately, some Democrats had made clear that they were not yet sold on him.
She knew something about that.
“Get to know him, you know?” Ms. Ocasio-Cortez said outside the Capitol, addressing those reluctant to come around. “If anybody is skeptical, I would say get to know him.”

This theory that any man or woman can “make it” in America is true but how can people vote for an unqualified Rapper, rich Communist who will please everybody with chocolate milk running from every public drinking fountain in New York?
Mamdani is following in the footsteps of Barack Obama who, through sleuth and slight of hand convinced millions to put him in the White House.
It is possible that if Mamdani wins in New York, he will eventually go for the White House with his money and the backing of Qatar.
