Comey doubled down on media leak denial after Durham inquiry, and it just got him indicted

Comey's media leak denial in front of Congress in 2017 likely would have fallen outside the statute of limitations. But the fired FBI chief doubled down on his denial in 2020 — and he was indicted days before the statute was set to expire next week.

Former FBI Director James Comey was indicted Thursday by a federal grand jury in Virginia on charges he made false statements to Congress when he denied leaking to the media – putting himself in legal jeopardy after having doubled down on his 2017denials during Senate testimony in 2020.

Comey’s alleged leaking was already part of the FBI’s prior Tropic Vortex classified leaks inquiry and was reviewed by then-U.S. Attorney John Durham. However, he never faced criminal charges over his alleged leaks – until the grand jury charged him with lying to Congress and obstruction of a congressional proceeding.

[snip]

The indictment for false statements and for obstruction was likely able to be obtained in a jurisdiction outside the nation’s capital because, even though Comey’s testimony was made during a Senate hearing held on Capitol Hill, he appeared remotely, likely from his home across the Potomac River in Virginia.

Comey, like so many in the deep state, believed he was untouchable. That's the reason for the arrogance. That's the reason he thought he could post 8647 and then pretend he didn't know what it meant.

But what got him was repeating his lies and restarting the clock on the statute of limitations.

Plausible deniability.

Secrecy.

Allies in Congress that will protect him.

Deferring responsibility to group, studies or committee decisions, distributed responsibility (even though he steers these and basically directed the answer he wants).

The tit for tat, go after him and they will go after someone else.

I would be surprised if anything actually happens to him (Comey).

Should it, of course. He’s the master mind of much of the illegal, immoral, unethical crap that happened (surveillance of Trump tower using FISA powers is just one example).

He was a straight up political hack using the powers of his office to protect certain people, like HRC and her server, while going after others like General Fynn.

He’s a nasty man that smiles and talks nice, he knows he has to “pretend” to be unbiased and fair when speaking in a camera.

So there was one good thing about COVID. Now Comey will be tried in Northern Virginia instead of DC.

Let's hope Comey ends up in jail.
The arrogant , lawless criminal needs to pay for his crimes.

I don’t know why the left is so upset. A few years ago, the media was constantly reminding us that Comey is a Republican. They should be elated that a Republican has been indicted.

“Comey, like so many in the deep state, believed he was untouchable. That’s the reason for the arrogance.”

And, TO THIS DAY, I give Bush Jr. the ‘credit’ for the fact that Democrats in DC felt immune from prosecution...because Bush’s “New Tone” told them EXACTLY THAT.

Mark Warner - Comeys coconspirator - will protect him and get him a deal, to keep him silent.

He’s got nothing to worry about. Look at the judge overseeing the case!

All by design.

He’ll get slapped on the hand and told he was a bad boy.
