OREM, Utah — Tyler Robinson, the 22-year-old accused of assassinating Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk at Utah Valley University earlier this month, "made contact" with a police officer near where investigators recovered the alleged murder weapon wrapped in a towel in the woods at the edge of campus, according to two law enforcement sources.
It happened around 6:30 p.m. on Sept. 10, roughly six hours after a sniper's bullet struck Kirk in the neck as he was engaging the audience during a speaking event sponsored by the UVU chapter of his organization in Orem, Utah.
The officer was guarding the perimeter after authorities placed the campus on lockdown, and the encounter appears to have thwarted the suspect's attempt to recover the Mauser .30-06 rifle prosecutors allege was used to kill Kirk.

Dog returns to its vomit.
This would seem to be consistent with the text thread with his roommate indicating he tried to return but a squad car was parked near the rifle drop site.
If they were smart they could have set up a steak out for anyone returning to pick up the weapon.
Sounds like roommate needs to be locked up too.
Conspiracy after the fact.
Agree.
And the burnt Fool's bandaged finger goes wabbling back to the Fire.
They could've gotten steak for the guys on the stake-out.
Just as long as they gave them time to eat it.
lf they put a “steak out” (including baked potato and salad) near the weapon and if I lived in the area, they would have caught me.
1.) Was the round recovered from Kirk’s neck a 30-06 caliber round?
2.) Why do the text messages between Robinson and his themfriend mention his parents trying to call and demanding pictures of the gun when they have said they didn’t suspect it was him until the next day? Where did he spend the night of the murder?
3.)Why did the video they released of the suspect running across the roof start after he was already running when the angle of the camera likely picked up the location he was in when the shot was fired? Why not release footage of the entire event?
Hold it
The story has changed completely?
I thought he had the rifle with him when he jumped off the roof ?
Now they say he went back but was stopped
If he was stopped , how did he get the rifle ?
to later hide it ?
“”””Prosecutors released excerpts from a text message conversation they say Robinson had with his roommate and romantic partner, Lance Twiggs, that occurred at an unspecified time on the evening of Sept. 10””””
For some reason, and hopefully it is for a good reason that will implicate others, the FBI is not releasing the exact time the text messages were sent.
I would suggest that as soon as the rifle was discovered, the evidence chain-of-custody requirement made it impossible for the rifle, or blanket it was wrapped in, to be left out-of-custody for stakeout bait.
.
It was speculation that Robinson did not have the rifle when he dropped down from the roof.
Your right.
I misread and thought the perimeter being guarded was the campus roof.
