The United Nations issued a statement about the mishap, saying that the elevator stopping might have been triggered for safety as a videographer was standing backwards ahead of the president trying to film him.
"The safety mechanism is designed to prevent people or objects accidentally being caught and stuck in or pulled into the gearing. The videographer may have inadvertently triggered the safety function described above," the U.N. statement said.
โOur technician, who was at the location, reset the escalator as soon as the delegation had climbed up to the second floor. A subsequent investigation, including a readout of the machine's central processing unit, indicated that the escalator had stopped after a built-in safety mechanism on the comb step was triggered at the top of the escalator,โ the U.N. statement continued. โThe safety mechanism is designed to prevent people or objects accidentally being caught and stuck in or pulled into the gearing. Trump now has first-hand proof that the UN building is a derelict in need of demolition and reconstruction. The building is antiquated and unsafe.
Send everyone home until construction is complete. Maybe move it to Brussels for everyone’s safety.
The UN will launch a 6-week, $500,000 investigation, then commission a 6-month $2-million study to evaluate all escalators in the building...then a 2-year $10-million project to repair/replace all escalators. Project will take 5 years and cost $17-million. Then the escalators will work backwards.
Honest mistake. Just the sewers suddenly backing up in the UN Headquarters.
