WASHINGTON — Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., said that Federal Communications Commission Chair Brendan Carr's comments threatening to take action against Disney's ABC last week were "absolutely inappropriate."
Asked whether Carr's comments, threatening to revoke broadcasting licenses from ABC after late-night TV host Jimmy Kimmel made remarks about Republicans' response to the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, were appropriate, Paul said no.
"Brendan Carr's got no business weighing in on this, but people have to also realize that despicable comments, you have the right to say them, but you don't have the right to employment," Paul added.

Paraphrasing some other comments:
"Let's not forget Democrats sent DHS and FBI to the offices of Twitter (re: COVID) and Facebook threatening to break them up".
"Look, I can't speak for the president but the censorship office we had under Biden is now gone."
On Trump comments re: Bondi:
"The King of Lawfare was Biden, let's not forget this.. What they did to Donald Trump for four years was an abomination"
On the debt and opposition to gov't funding:
"I think it's disruptive to shut the government down... Both parties are terrible at addressing the deficit. I'm not voting for either the Democrat or the Republican bill"
Ted Cruz was not liking that either.
You don’t have a right to broadcasting licenses.
People are conflating free speech with illegal use of airwaves.
I find it somewhat ironic that we had to fund NPR and PBS for decades when all they did was push the far left line. You couldn’t go on the air unless you pushed the leftist vitriol.
Now people cannot tolerate the wee bit of conservative use of the same principles that funded NPR and PBS for so long. Instead of overtly funding leftist viewpoints, Carr said that licenses could be revoked for airing hatred. I suppose you could argue that the government is threatening to revoke licenses unless broadcasters espouse the conservative line.
I see it as sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander.
Always count on Rand Paul to come in with the worst timing dogging at MAGA. He’s disgusting
Mention how twitter blocked President Trump
Mention how Kimmel cheered at Tucker Carlson getting fired from Fox and his audience cheered
Figure out that the fcc is not the arbiter of free speech it is a licencising authority for network tv. If Kimmel wants to pay for his own production and garner and audience the fcc won’t give a S
Rand Paul is just not smart
bullseye
These are PUBLIC airwaves and they’ve been used to transmit obama marxist hateful vile propaganda and has been used to enrage the communist left to the point they literally want to kill normal people.
It’s not their right to use PUBLIC airwaves to do this.
Jimmy was taken off the air because Nexstar wasn’t going to carry his program and I doubt he we making any money for the network anyways. colbert was losing a few million every year and i doubt kimmel was doing any better
“ I find it somewhat ironic that we had to fund NPR and PBS for decades when all they did was push the far left line.”
And these disgusting GOP do nothing about it. They pretend people will think they’re tough going after their own never confronting the enemies
He is a lukewarm wimp
Won’t shut up and watch what’s going on at the Charlie Kirk event to see how people respond tonan equal opportunity truth teller raised on truth
Exactly. Those “despicable comments” made over the airwaves were also outright lies purposely intended to mislead people. What Kimmel said was patently malicious.
If it’s not the job to regulate…. What is it’s job?
Personally I think the FCC chair, like JD and his comments about National Guard in Detroit, was a case of getting out over their skis too far. The more we let the left tell us exactly who and what they are the better. At the same time Rand and Ted and whoever else should say their peace but then move on, dont let the propagandists turn this into a narrative. Now if only JD had said Dearborn instead....😜
Read my paraphrasing me mentioned Biden and his censorship 2 or 3 times. He concluded it’s not good for either party
“Always count on Rand Paul to come in with the worst timing dogging at MAGA. He’s disgusting”
*************
Not hard to understand why his neighbor beat him up. Paul is irritatingly sanctimonious.
I thought the same thing but the more I looked into it, the more I changed my opinion. The FCC has pushed politics on TV stations since at least the 1980s. Carr’s comments seem mild compared to some things that happened in the past - like threatening to review licences if the networks did not put minorities on their boards. Do I think Carr should have said what he said? No, but simply because it gave the Left ammunition to turn this into a Free Speech issue when reality was that it was a 100% internal decision based on horrible ratings and local affiliate revolts.
"Kimmel lied" is nowhere near the level of misconduct that should even begin a conversation on withdrawing a broadcast license. Political coverage by everyone is fully of exaggerations/distortions, as well as actual lying. And on top of that, his show doesn't purport to be unbiased, accurate news, but politically-oriented "comedy".
It's a crap show, but this just smacks of suppressing political opposition, and surrenders the high ground we had on the issue of free political expression.
“ Read my paraphrasing me mentioned Biden and his censorship 2 or 3 times. He concluded it’s not good for either party”
I did. It is irrelevant
They speak out only against Trump
Enough
I am not alluding to anyone beating anyone up
I said vote them out. Keep me out of your violent ideas
