Jurors acquit anti-ICE protester accused of assaulting federal officer in Paramount

An anti-immigration enforcement protester was acquitted Wednesday in downtown Los Angeles of a misdemeanor assault charge alleging he struck a federal officer during a June demonstration.

Brayan Ramos-Brito was the first of dozens of people accused of impeding or attacking federal agents during Los Angeles area immigration-raid protests to go to trial in L.A. federal court.

He was originally charged with a felony assault charge stemming from a June 7 protest in Paramount, but the charge was subsequently reduced to a misdemeanor count of simple assault on a federal officer. Ramos-Brito was acquitted of the charge Wednesday following a two-day trial.

Video of the incident did not show an assault on an officer, CBS Los Angeles reported.

U.S. Border Patrol Sector Chief Gregory Bovino testified during the trial that he saw Ramos-Brito strike the officer with an open palm, CBS LA reported.

Jurors deliberated for a little over an hour before acquitting him.

Paramount is a neighborhood in Los Angeles's central San Fernando Valley area. It's heavily working class Latino.

Our courts and their juries are corrupt as hell.

“Our courts and their juries are corrupt as hell.”

It all goes back to Universal Voting. The jury system doesn’t work when tribal types can dominate the jury pool. In fact, the Constitution also doesn’t work. We should have NEVER second-guessed the Founders...and now we pay, daily, for doing just that.

Which means the “jury” was more than likely Latino. Doesn’t sound like the American didn’t stand a chance of getting a conviction against the illegal alien foreigner. Typical.

In before the “but Latinos are con-ser-va-tive” crowd.

Most likely another case of “my race, right or wrong.”

Jury nullification is a thing.

Except the Founders would probably not agree with you.

“Except the Founders would probably not agree with you.”

The Tribalists were around from the beginning, so why didn’t they have Universal Voting?

This is likely going to be the next frustrating step in our descent into total disregard of ‘the rule of law’ - that phrase the left loves to use in a obtuse manner.

We already have a spate of Federal judges mocking it. Now, juries will not be deciding on whether a defendant is ‘guilty as charged’ with some infraction, they are deciding on whether they think the person should be punished because the crime shouldn’t be a crime.

I’m glad I lived most of my life during a period when it was possible to believe in my fellow citizens and didn’t have to realize that almost every aspect of the government was corrupt.

“Except the Founders would probably not agree with you.”

Did the Founders put universal voting into the Constitution?

No. They did not.

Now, juries will not be deciding on whether a defendant is ‘guilty as charged’

Now? It already happened 30 years ago with OJ's acquittal.

This is a widening example of a brewing civil war in which physical assaults are not punished by juries of sympathetic foreigners leading to a call for vigilante justice.

We have thousands volunteering to become ICE agents. It needs to grow to MILLIONS becoming ICE agents to clean out this scourge of violent trespassers.

If the failing court system WILL NOT PUNISH VIOLENCE, the people themselves will have to take the lead.

This is nothing short of a breakdown of civilized society in the USA.

The puke who killed Charlie Kirk would be acquitted there or any other democrat shithole. System is a sick joke.

Sounds like he had a jury of his “peers.”

juries of sympathetic foreigners

I think you're still required to be a citizen to serve as a juror in California.

My broker was complaining on FB about being called for jury duty. When someone criticized her for not wanting to participate as a good citizen, her retort was that she wasn’t a “peer” to any of those people. I had to laugh at the truth, having been called once myself. Neither of us are street thugs.

I dunno. You’d be suprised at the soft attitude in Utah. I dont think a conviction is a slam dunk.

Be interesting to see the judges

” Instructions to the jury “

he gave them before dismissing them to deliberate their verdict.

I’ve heard some real horror stories about juries being handcuffed by those instructions that guarantee a guilty , or innocent, verdict .
