The organization previously called Charlie Kirk a 'professional provocateur' and encouraged campus resistance to his events
The nation’s leading professors’ group defended faculty speech rights after the assassination of Turning Point USA (TPUSA) founder Charlie Kirk, but stopped short of condemning his killing.
Rather, the American Association of University Professors (AAUP), founded in 1915, called for leaders of universities to avoid "political pressure" to fire faculty members over comments made about the conservative powerhouse in the aftermath of his death.
"The AAUP notes with great alarm the rash of recent administrative actions to discipline faculty, staff, and student speech in the aftermath of the murder of Charlie Kirk," the AAUP wrote in a statement provided to Fox News Digital. "We write to remind leaders of colleges and universities of their fundamental duty to protect academic freedom and the absolute necessity to ensure that the freedom to discuss topics of public import without constraint is not curtailed under political pressure."

To ‘lib profs’, truth is provocation.
But, then again, ‘lib prof’ sets the standard of “No Standards”.
University employees Celebrating Campus Shootings is a HUGE legal liability for schools.
Incitement to violence and defamation are not “free speech”
“”The AAUP notes with great alarm the rash of recent administrative actions to discipline faculty, staff, and student speech in the aftermath of the murder of Charlie Kirk,” the AAUP wrote in a statement provided to Fox News Digital.
“We write to remind leaders of colleges and universities of their fundamental duty to protect academic freedom and the absolute necessity to ensure that the freedom to discuss topics of public import without constraint is not curtailed under political pressure.”
What about Charlie’s rights of free speech? Oh well he’s dead now so he no longer needs that? (sarcasm)
BTW, funny how those “free speech” rights they claim never were applied to Charlie Kirk by these same organizations.
The Leftists doth project too much, methinks.
Free speech with no consequences for me but not for thee
Too bad “academic freedom” didn’t include Charlie Kirk’s speech. HYPOCRITES!
Any professor group that by now is not focused on examining and addressing academia’s role in normalizing calls for acts of violence against conservatives should be shut down.
> their fundamental duty to protect academic freedom and the absolute necessity to ensure that the freedom to discuss topics of public import without constraint
Funny. In all my undergrad and grad school years, I can’t remember once having unconstrained freedom to speak. It was always “agree with the professor or get a crappy grade,” no matter how loony and left-wing the professor felt moved to be in class.
I find it disconcerting that they defend those who believe that they have a right to free speech, but you should be killed for exercising yours if they disagree. What kind of intellectual freedom do those teachers and professors offer in their classrooms? Are we really surprised in seeing a 22-year-old willing to kill someone because of what they say? After all, it is learned behavior.
That’s absolutely correct.
What I would expect from that commie organization. Sooner or later reasonable people will demand that teachers and professors be of sound mind again.
Commie tenured loons.
