This area, which was very nice once upon a time, has been absolutely invaded and overwhelmed by the subhuman sewage who are trying to escape the dystopia they created in the Portland metro area -- so they can recreate that dystopia elsewhere.
The lurch to the hard left politically in Deschutes has increased speed over the last decade or so:
I remember Sisters when it was just a little ranching town. By the later 70s, it was already turning into a fake-Western tourist trap.
Central Oregon has really deteriorated since hordes of lefties moved there. Bend especially is just about unrecognizable compared to even 40 years ago.
"Sisters" Oregon is named for the famous nearby mountain peaks in the Cascade Range, "The Three Sisters." (compare to "Les Trois Tetons" in Wyoming!)
The towns on the east side of the Cascades have gone liberal since logging left, tourism greatly increased, skiing rose, resorts were built (mainly 40 miles south at Sunriver), and retirees moved in.
Sisters leans moderately liberal in recent voting patterns, with Deschutes County (where Sisters is located) favoring Democratic candidates in presidential elections since 2008. However, it’s not a stereotypical "rich liberal town." Wealth exists, especially among retirees and second-home owners drawn to the area’s beauty, but median household income is around $81,000, closer to Oregon’s average than to affluent urban enclaves. The town’s vibe is more pragmatic and community-focused than overtly political or elite.
Clearly, the cattle, ranching, farming, and rodeo interests are losing power.
I'm shocked that there are enough libs there to object to that great statue.
I was just about to accuse the mayor of being too easily triggered by a statue, when I read your post. You may have a point. Her likely dread of attracting conservatives is one thing, but installing the statue in or very near a roundabout is another. I have read many posters on this website describe how confusing and tedious roundabouts can be. Maybe there are better places for that statue.
I equate not liking cowboys to not liking dogs, and warns me who/where to avoid.
I’ve just about given up on talking to anyone at the fishing hole. We can be chatting pleasantly enough, and someone will say something so ignorant or off-the-wall that I’m left speechless.
There is that....
They’d fall all over themselves to approve a bronze statue of George Floyd.

It could just as easily draw PETA types.
