US set to sign nuclear power deals with UK during Trump’s state visit

WASHINGTON — President Trump is set to sign a string of major nuclear energy agreements with the UK during his state visit this week — building new plants to power AI and free the NATO ally from reliance on Russian nuclear material.

The multi-billion dollar agreements are expected to be signed during Trump’s visit with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer on the heels of the president’s unprecedente second state visit with King Charles.

The deal includes policies that lower restrictions on building new power stations in both countries. Anglo-American corporate partnerships are at the center of the new scheme — with US-based X-energy working with British firm Centrica to construct 12 advanced modular reactors in the northeast town of Hartlepool.

American company Holtec will partner with UK-based EDF and Tritax to create small nuclear data centers in Nottinghamshire.

“Today’s commercial deals set up a framework to unleash commercial access in both the US and UK, enhancing global energy security, strengthening US energy dominance, and securing nuclear supply chains across the Atlantic,” Energy Secretary Chris Wright said ahead of the deals.

“This is really focused on cooperation between the United States and the United Kingdom, and that includes commitment and determination to achieve full independence from Russian nuclear fuel by 2028,” a senior US official told reporters Monday.

If it were my call, I would advise President Trump to not seek closer ties with any Leftist-Euro-Fascist state, including Great Britain. I don’t see what’s in it for us. They are very far from where conservative Americans are ideologically. Weren’t they involved in the Trump-Russia Hoax? Why would Trump seek closer ties with them? They are suppressing their own people and have imported so many Muslims that can never go back to where they once were.

“Why would Trump seek closer ties with them?”

************

A fair question to ask of someone who has claimed that the EU treats America “very unfairly, very badly”. Earlier this year he said that the European Union was formed to “screw” the United States. So lots of rhetoric that seems inconsistent with his recent complaints.

Too bad the Brits shutdown their reprocessing plants in 2022 we could have used them to make the metallic Pu fuels we need for sodium fast reactors the breeder kind. Only the French , Russians, Chinese, Indians, and North Koreans have reprocessing tech now and as such have infinite energy sources. The USA gave up this tech when that traitor Carter banned it here. F him I would piss on his grave if it wasn’t a federal offence.

Still we have both houses and POTUS it’s high time to start reprocessing here for the Pu needed for fast reactors. 10 billion is enough to build a brand new purex line with all the trimmings. Pu is worth $$$$$ per gram.

One Kg of Pu makes 8 million kilowatt hours of electricity in a conventional reactor the PWR kind. At $20 per MWh that single Kg is worth $160,000 in wholesale market electric sales or $160 per gram.

The above is in the most inefficient reactor possible to burn it in. In a fast reactor spectrum Pu will undergo complete fission..

One gram of Plutonium-239 (Pu-239) that undergoes complete fission releases approximately 82 terajoules (TJ) or 206 TJ/kg.

One TJ is 277.8 megawatt hours so 82 of them is 22,779.6 megawatt hours thermal...fast sodium reactors with CO2 turbines are 50-52% thermal to electric so one gram is 11,389.8 megawatt hours electric again at $20 wholesale is $227,796 in wholesale market electric sales PER GRAM this alone should show why it is absolute insanity to not reprocess spent fuel into fast reactor fuels. Besides the 100 times increase in energy supply per gram of mined uranium. It should be a crime against humanity to bury spent fuel w/o reprocessing it.

New construction on Boiling water reactors need to banned. There are far safer options now. The only reason they use that technology is to produce fuel for nuclear bombs. Thorium seems to be a much better technology.

Why would Trump want to make deals with that dystopian, mass surveillance, repressive, trans-totalitarian country?

The United Kingdom is a shithole. They should be treated like a lawless dysfunctional pariah country. In other words, like Haiti. /spit

The integral fast reactor cannot be made to melt down it was put through torture test that would have wreaked a BWR or PWR.

The fundamental laws of physics shut it.down even if all the rods are pulled out on purpose or by accident. The pool is air cooled and cannot boil off and since the metal fuel has a much higher temp than even boiling sodium it cannot melt the rods. Even losing the heat sink has no long term effect here again large pool mass and natural draft air cooling keeps the pool under the boiling point.

The INF reactor is one of the safest humans have come up with. Sodium is inert in argon. The whole top half of the plant is argon atmosphere in multiple layers of seals and spaces. Forget sodium to water steam generators. That has been the weak link but the Russians solved it so did the Japanese. Sodium to sodium to CO2 is one way to go the other is sodium to sodium salts to heat storage and then to either CO2 turbines or steam turbines. Sodium salts are largely inert to molten sodium the reaction is slow and not energetic like water or air.

What I believe is that BWR’s are pure insanity. I always have And I always will. They have the potential to be far more destructive than a nuclear bomb in that they have the potential to render massive areas of land un-inhabbital for 100,000 years. And there are a large number of things that can lead to their failure. Both man made and natural.

And lets say there had been a BWR power plant in Hiroshima when the bomb was dropped. That would have led to the failure of the BWR and there would be no one living there now. It would be no mans land even today.

Like I said. Insanity.

The Russians took that design to a crazy level with the graphite moderated boiling water RBMK versions no domed containment, positive void coefficient and online refueling with natural uranium which requires that positive void coefficient to even work. Why...because the RBMK reactor makes weapons grade Pu in 6 months burn time.

The only BWR designs that are walk away safe are the BWRX and the ESBWR both have cooling ponds and tanks above them and both use physics and gravity to do decay heat cooling with the smaller version only needing it’s tank topped up after 7 days the larger one needs 72 hours top up by fire truck or hand started 5hp trash pump. Any source of water will do, fire suppression, on site pond, seawater even. The whole idea of a BWR is to use commercial steam turbines and not have to use special unsaturated steam turbines like a PWR plus all the heat exchangers pressure generators.

Fast reactors consume weapons Pu and make reactor grade Pu it is exactly opposite what a weapons program needs in fact it’s the best way to get rid of weapons grade Pu while unlocking its massive energy potential.

Thorium while more common in rocks still has to be mined and U233 is the idea weapons grade fuel it has a crit mass under 15 kg and unlike Pu it can be used in very simple gun assembly designs. Thorium is fertile not fissile you have to breed U233 in it via neutron absorption and then chemically separate the U233 from the fission products what you get is chemically pure U233 and if you do it right the U232 content is low so no self shielding gamma emitters. People swoon over thorium it’s arguably more of a proliferation risk than fiercely radioactive Uranium based spent fuel where even if you purex the fuel you get reactor grade Pu and it’s fiercely gamma ray active anyone near it for more than a few tens of seconds is dead.

Plus we have millions of years worth of energy in depleted already mined uranium that only needs the Pu spark plug to turn on a fast reactor breed chain. All thermal spectrum reactors should be banned they consume precious fissile materials while breeding back none of the much more valuable Pu the conversion ratio is 0.6 or less per Kg where as fast reactors can be 1.4:1 as in 40% more fissile materials come out than went in expanding the energy supply not consuming it.

I made the post many times as a species we cannot rely on energy sources that consume more energy then they return in productive use. The EROI must be positive at the species level economics and profits are irrelevant at this level. Oil is 100MJ ttaken from the ground and what ends up in the tank is 20MJ of that original 100 the rest is lost in the production, refining, transport, distribution of it. The only reason it is done is the cost of throwing away 80MJ is low enough compared to the profit for selling the refined 20MJ of actual product. From a energy management and resource depletion standing this process can never be sustainable over the long run it’s a matter of depletion vs creation rate which is human timescale vs geological time.

Only nuclear fast reactor spectrum, solar, wind, geothermal are EROI positive at the species level. Fast reactors over a 60 year lifespan are in the 100+ EROI solar and wind range from 40-100+ depends on where they are put. Geothermal is 20-50+ again where you put it matters but ALL produce or harvest much more energy than they consume in creating them that is the key point they multiply energy not consume it. Liquid hydrocarbons by definition consume energy to use them every step of the process has energy losses and when they are burnt thermodynamics again dictates that half of the energy content goes out as waste heat or thermal losses Carnot cannot be ignored he is the law.

“Sanity for electricity is starting to return?”

Maybe just for a short while as Greta is busy trying to get Jews killed. Eventually she’ll understand the futility of that and Europe will be back to answering to her.

The clintons sold our uranium to the Russians who then sold it to the Iranians. England might as well buy direct from us and cut out the middlemen....
