Seven candidates for Germany's right-wing AfD party have died in a matter of weeks - with just nine days remaining until a crunch set of local elections.
The state of North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany's densely-populated western region which contains cities including Cologne and Dusseldorf, is preparing for polls on September 14.
But a string of AfD candidates have died - sparking intense speculation and demands for an investigation.
Stefan Homburg, a professor at the University of Hannover, has described the deaths as "statistically almost impossible".
His warning, shared to social media platform X, was reposted by AfD leader Alice Weidel and Elon Musk, who owns X.
But Kay Gottschalk, the party's regional deputy chairman, said on Tuesday: "What I have in front of me... just partial information... doesn't back up these suspicions at the moment".
He told Welt TV: "We will, of course, investigate these cases with the necessary sensitivity and care."
Though Mr Gottschalk stressed there was "no indication" that this is "murder or anything similar."
It is possible for it to be possible and for it to be statistically impossible at the same time. The fact that it is possible does not make it almost statistically impossible. It is statistically impossible. It is only possible because it actually happened.

Europe is the trial run for what they want to do to us here: massive immigration to change the population and get Muslims here to vote liberal until they can eventually take over. Then arrest anyone who even jokes about their agenda (see England this week). Then genocide (see South Africa).
It sure would be good to know some causes of death.

Announcing that you are an AfD candidate will become less and less common. The leaders of Hamas and Hezbollah found this out the hard way.
At least one of the seven had a heart attack (last death appears leading toward that as well....so two of them).
One was a suicide...guy had serious liver problems and decline in health.
All may be appear as sudden, but the state (NRW) had a end-point where you (the parties) had to certify names for ballot-printing processes. That’s when AfD came to realize that their current listing had a problem.
I should also note...this is a city council/district election for the state, not a fed or state election. Most parties (30-plus) had meetings in June/July to reach nomination process.

Poison can be administeted in many ways.
There are number of poisons which will induce a heart attack. Some of them are extremely difficult to detect in an autopsy.
The age of the deceased candidates is what makes their "coincidental" deaths plausible. The timing of their deaths makes "coincidence" less plausible.
AfD had better have replacement candidates in the coming election. If they are prevented from doing that, then I can conclude that we are seeing assassinations, and the rules for "elections" have just changed.
