Two 17-year-old suspects have been arrested in connection with the murder of congressional intern Eric Tarpinian-Jachym, federal prosecutors announced Friday.
Authorities say a third juvenile suspect remains at large.
U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia Jeanine Pirro said the two teens, identified as Jalen Lucas and Kelvin Thomas Jr., will be charged as adults with first-degree murder in the June 30 slaying. Prosecutors indicated that additional charges could follow once the case is presented to a grand jury.
Tarpinian-Jachym, 21, was gunned down late at night in Washington when stray bullets struck him multiple times, according to investigators. He was working as an intern for Rep. Ron Estes, R-Kan., while preparing to begin his senior year at the University of Massachusetts Amherst.
"He was an innocent bystander who was caught in a violent act that was not meant for him," Pirro said. "His death is a stark reminder of how fragile life is and how violence too often visits us in the nation's capital."
U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi praised investigators, crediting surveillance reviews and multiple witness interviews for leading authorities to the suspects.
"Thanks to outstanding investigative work from the FBI, two of his suspected killers were just arrested," Bondi said. "If convicted, they will face severe justice. We hope this provides some measure of solace to his family."

Jalen and Kelvin ...
Fortunately, they will be charged as adults.
You see anything about a murder in d.c June 30th?
Two colored ferals!
How are they going to convict on a “1st Degree Murder” charge when they readily admit the victim was struck by stray bullets and/or a cross-fire from 3 different weapons?
Because it was during the commission of a crime? That’s my guess.
I’m only concerned that they don’t hurt them by strapping them into the electric chair to tightly.
Get a strong rope and a very very big tree
Firing squad (with decent markemen, anyway) is much more humane. Quicker, too.
They really need to knock off the ‘teens’ bullsh*t.
Laying odds that $100 bail and jury sympathy are coming...
Why should they get a quick, humane execution?
OK.
Hang the teens and sterilize the mothers.
Nothing new here. They must have been caught when they finally decided under federal control, there were no more easy white targets.
1st degree murder requires a willful and premeditated killing; being a lousy shot is not a defense
Maybe the marksmen wouldn't be all that skilled . . . Heh.
Any decent lawyer will demand a jury trial and over 50% of the jury pool will consider the murder a part of the "reparations package" which was due to the ferals.
And they will lie about their feelings in order to get on the jury. A conviction is not going to happen.
