PRINCETON, Texas — Princeton is growing at the fastest rate in the nation, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.
But just south of this Collin County city's limits, along a peninsula of Lavon Lake, lies a master-planned community of single-family homes that are, well, let's say not very "Texas sized," but becoming more popular.
Miami-based builder Lennar announced in a press release it is bringing tiny homes – each at less than 700 square feet – to North Texas. The homes are available in a community called Tillage Farms.
The two-story homes will start in the mid $100,000s, Lennar said. Each home is fitted with one bedroom, a loft, and two bathrooms. The first floor has an open floor plan shared between the kitchen and living room, with an owner's suite that could function as a bedroom or office space; and the second floor features a lofted bedroom with another bathroom.

I want one.
I think it would just make me claustrophobic
These tiny home developments are going up fast across Florida, and a new development is just beginning in Savannah.
Tornado season will be fun - two-story mobile homes...
Great for Californians, folks from Chicago, and New Yorkers moving here. They can put a Mini Cooper car dealership right next to the housing development.
This is Texas, and real Texans like things bigger.
Many people in Texas are living in RV’s. It’s the only affordable option for many. Apartments are crazy expensive.
Many property owners are creating RV parks on their former ranch/farm land.
They range from sparse to very fancy covered options.
Looks like we have an affordable housing emergency to me.
The ones in the photo look ok, but the two-story layout probably wouldn’t be good for seniors. I’ve seen photos of small houses in my area that are specifically designed for seniors.
NOT the American dream!
We may as well live in mud huts.
Prescott Valley, AZ, has several tiny house developments for the rental market and they are very popular. There is a waiting list for vacancies.
It’s perfect for singles or couple who don’t have large pets, don’t entertain or have guests, or travel a lot.
Might as well stack up a bunch of containers. They would look as good and last longer.
From the mid-100 thousands?
Less debris to clean up after 🌪
$100,000 for that is pretty steep.
An only option because a basic apartment, in an area where your kids won't end up in a gang, is unaffordable? Nevermind an actual home. Just sad.
The antithesis of the American way of life.
"Lennar Corp., a Florida-based construction company, is set to build approximately 3,000 homes. Workers have begun clearing the area, cutting down trees and digging up the ground to lay pipes. However, protesters argue that the work that's being done is illegal on several fronts. When there's bad press, sponsor some good press. That's the thing."Michael Phillips, a Scenic Loop resident, said the legacy live oaks being cut down are on private property and the construction crews don't have the appropriate permits, according to KSAT. 'I'm not an expert, but these trees are maybe 60, 70 years old, maybe a little bit less?' Phillips told the outlet. 'And they are not easy to grow back'."

" 'They thought they were going to bulldoze this through,' said Gary Brown, HOA president at the Trends At Boca Raton community. 'It is not going to happen.'
"Land-use lawyer, Neil Schiller, hired by Boca Lago communities to fight the project, said he expects Lennar to reduce the density, a major concern of area residents."

Tornado season will be fun- two story mobile home
I have lived in tornado country my entire life. A 4000 sq ft home will disappear just as fast as a 700 sq ft one.
My thought exactly. What exactly are they going to do when there's an EF-4 coming, and being below ground is just about the only way to be sure of survival
I admit that I only skimmed the article, but nothing jumped out at me relating to whether there would be an in-ground tornado shelter in the common areas or not.
Just offer cardboard boxes with windows and siding painted on outside surfaces.
