President Vladimir Putin has said Russia is willing to fight to achieve all its objectives if Ukraine does not agree to a deal.
He made the remarks in China after attending a huge military parade seen as a challenge to Donald Trump and the US-dominated world order.
The US president has tried to persuade Putin to end the war, but the Russian leader, while praising Trump's "sincere desire", has so far not done so.
Visiting Kyiv, UK Defence Secretary John Healey told the BBC Trump had brought Putin to the table, and had not ruled out putting more pressure on him.
Countries like the UK, he said, were willing "to put extra economic pressure on Putin... and to give extra aid to Ukraine so they can keep in the fight".
Trump pulled Putin out of international isolation last month when he hosted a meeting with him in Alaska.
He also tried to persuade Putin to meet Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky.
"I have never ruled out the possibility of such a meeting. But is there any point? Let's see," Putin said on Wednesday.
He added that any such meeting required preparation to yield results, and that Zelensky could always go to Moscow to see him – a "knowingly unacceptable" idea, Ukraine's foreign minister was quick to point out.
Ukraine's president has been highlighting Putin's refusal to meet as a way of urging Trump to impose sanctions on Russia and boost Ukraine's defences.
Russia launched a full-scale invasion of its neighbour in February 2022.
Later on Wednesday Trump said the Russian leader "knows where I stand" regarding an end to the war.
"I have no message to President Putin, he knows where I stand, and he'll make a decision one way or the other," Trump told reporters at the White House, where...

Substitute “nato” for the proxy Ukraine
So, he’s just been messing around?
Gonna get serious now?
Gonna put on his walkin shoes?
With what army? He’s going to depend on norks and china!
A few well-placed Oreshnik Mach 10 ballistic MIRVs ought to do it.
Europe and it’s dumb Wars.
Sounds like you haven’t been watching the battle maps lately.
“Trump pulled Putin out of international isolation last month when he hosted a meeting with him in Alaska.”
After the show this weekend in Beijing, only a fool would describe Putin as internationally isolated.
“With what army? He’s going to depend on norks and china!”
Symbolic, not strategic.
Russian troops at the front number 450,000. Russia is adding 35,000 volunteers a month, and they are well trained for months before going to the front because there is no shortage, Russian troops actually get rotations in and out due to their superior numbers.
Unfortunately, Ukrainian troops have to be shifted around the front to cover pressure spots, which opens up weak areas for Russia to attack. Western Ukraine was hit with 75 Russian missiles and drones last night. 526 were fired, 75 got through. That’s a higher number getting through these days, not a good sign. The targets were mainly weapons factories.
I’m hoping more that it sounds like I don’t give a sh*t about the imagined progress or setbacks of this retarded mess.
That’s what I hope it sounds like.
Ah, the surrender signal of a Pooper who has run out of talking points from his Kremlin handlers - show silly gifs!
Conventional or nuclear warheads?
If conventional, well, Oreshniks are not a cost effective way to deliver conventional warheads. That’s not even taking into account their present “one out of three” launch success rate.
If nuclear, well, I should quit paying my bills and use my money to go full-out prepper...
LOL, good one, Russians well trained. Okay
During the invasion of Ukraine, many Russian mobilized soldiers and recruits have received as little as two weeks or less of military training before being sent to the front lines . While this is not the standard length for all Russian troops, the rapid deployment of undertrained personnel has been widely reported by military observers, news outlets, and even Russian sources
Don't need a warhead at Mach 10. The ballistic impact alone is devastating. That's the whole point. Think "rods from God."
How does Russia's new ‘Oreshnik’ missile work?

You forgot to include the words “yet again”. ;-)
I’ll bet just that one irrelevant GIF has been posted on FR well over 1000 times. We might even be getting close to 10,000.
What IS relevant is whether Ukraine can continue to ramp up hits on Russian distillation towers, and whether Trump will ok turning over some 30+ y/o US tech to greatly increase Ukraine’s success ratio with such attacks.
Of all the targets in this war, those distillation towers, or the 30 or so largest, anyway, are the one target (group) that could end this war.
“While this is not the standard length for all Russian troops,”
Ah, the fatal weasel words. I commend you for including them.
Irrelevant. You (Russia) can still do more damage for less money with Russia’s other existing ballistic missiles, and some of their hypersonics. And again, that’s before you even get to the hideous launch success ratio.
Similar is true for “Rods From God”. You can do more damage for less money with conventional weapons / warheads. That’s assuming you don’t already have a 30 km / 19 mi. long monster rail gun on the Moon, anyway. (Heinlein reference.) Mass drivers are really only advantageous if you have big time energy of position to work with.
