In Southeast Washington, advocates say a new batch of federal police are making unusual arrests
When U.S. President Donald Trump sent thousands of National Guard troops to Washington in early August, they weren't seen in the highest crime sections of the city. Residents mostly encountered them in tourist areas and subway stations.
In Southeast Washington, away from the monuments and museums, advocates like Jawanna Hardy have seen a new batch of police making unusual arrests — but it's not the National Guard.
Hardy is the founder of Guns Down Friday, an organization that helps youth affected by crime in one of D.C.'s most dangerous areas. She said officers from out of town are now cracking down on youth smoking pot in the street, transit fare evaders and more.
"Just the other day, a young lady went to jail for fare evasion. She jumped the fence [at] the metro and didn't pay and they arrested her," Hardy said. "She went to jail for, I think, two days."
Miss Hardy, as she's known in the community, said her organization has been holding training sessions every Friday to teach youth how to act when they encounter law enforcement and notify them of changes to the way officers do their jobs.
National Guard troops are not making arrests at this time, the White House said, but there has been "a surge in federal law enforcement" sent to D.C., who are making arrests including in Wards 7 & 8, in Southeast Washington...

What has this world come to when people are actually being stopped from ripping off other people?
They whined that the National Guard came to town... And now they're whining because the National Guard isn't making arrest... But other federal officers are?
Pretty there are plenty in DC who are more than happy to see their streets actually being patrolled and policed.
Excuse me Miss Hardy, but I don’t think the National Guard is there to make arrests. They probably cannot without being deputized. They are there to protect your azz from the rampant street violence that has now ceased.
This is called broken window policing. It works.
EC
why not extend this training to include how to act property around everybody, not just law enforcement.
Ill also bet her support for children affected by gun violence organization has half of them who were on the trigger end of it...
Lesson #1. Don't break the law or act like a hood rat.
.
That ends the training session
The people interviewed complain the money for law enforcement could be better spent on playgrounds.

NEVER believe CBS News.
They are the smoothest propaganda delivery of any of them.
So now we are posting crap from the CBC? Please
CBC is even worse.
If the national guard is patrolling certain areas, it frees up the local constabulary to patrol other areas.
He’s from Canada. He is showing us what they are saying in the Canadian news organizations that ape American news organizations.
Lol I thought it was CBS.
Ty.
Right, but they can intervene if a crime is being committed. They can hold suspects for the police.
This frees up city police to give extra attention to the high-crime areas.
The local NBC DC station interviewed people who were disappointed that the NG hasn’t stopped drive by shootings.
You just can’t please some people.
