Trump seizes victory in border wall fight with new funding

DHS already has another 100 miles of wall in the works, and more is on the way

President Trump appears to have finally triumphed in the border wall battle, turning a major political battleground issue into a no-brainer winner for a majority of voters and Congress.

Just months into his second term, Mr. Trump has 100 miles of border barrier in the works. Capitol Hill has approved an additional $46.5 billion to add hundreds more miles and finish his marquee promise from his 2016 campaign.

The money was approved this summer with barely a whimper from lawmakers as part of Mr. Trump’s One Big Beautiful Bill Act. In 2018, during Mr. Trump’s first term, his demands for $25 billion in wall money helped sink a deal to legalize illegal immigrant Dreamers. A year later, his $5 billion request spurred the longest government shutdown in history.

Customs and Border Protection said it has 83 miles of traditional wall and 17 miles of waterborne barriers either under construction or in planning, using money left over from the first Trump administration. President Biden slow-walked those funds, but they never expired and were waiting for Mr. Trump in January.

CBP said it has a “robust acquisition strategy” to spend the money to complete Mr. Trump’s border wall vision and fill in the gaps Mr. Biden left when he halted all construction on his first day in office in 2021.

“Today, only one-third of the southwest border has man-made barriers, and the majority of the current barriers are missing the detection technology, cameras and lighting that today are part of the ‘system’ — which provides agents with the intel and domain awareness to respond to illegal activity,” the agency told The Washington Times.

Just four months into his second term? His second term started in January, and this is September. 100 miles in the planning stages? Golly, in two hundred years we could have a border fence. I think we are being played.

If AI is to believed, it was never sold. It went to a Gov. agency called GovPlanet to be auctioned off. In late December of last year a Fed. Judge blocked the pending auction. GovPlanet returned the 350 million in material.

Love his new idea to paint the wall with black enamel paint...

Now, if we could get him to electrify the concertina wire and use a remote control flame-thrower system...😲

The legislation was signed on the 4th of July, and it takes a while for the funds to be disbursed to the Departments and Agencies, so they can begin the contracting process. It may be that the money is for fiscal year 2026, and not available until October 1st.

The Federal Acquisition Regulation requires deliberate contracting procedures to ensure competition, to get better prices for the Government.

Request For Proposals must be published, a waiting period follows for bids to be received, a Source Selection Board must be convened to evaluate the proposals like calling a jury, and their recommendations must be approved by the acquisition authority. For complex projects like this, cutting across mountains, rivers and deserts; it naturally takes longer to cost estimate and evaluate, than simply getting a bid on a commodity product, and just picking the low price.

But they are not just stumbling into this like babes in the woods - a lot of preparation has been done on all sides, to get ready to commit those new funds on contract, and execute quickly. I expect that the first of the new funds will be awarded as task orders on pre-existing contracts this month or next (October for FY 26 funds), and larger new contracts by the end of the year.

Knowing all the required lead times, the Administration has a plan to get the construction done by the end of President Trump’s current term.

The 100 miles they are referring to, were funded back in Trump’s first term, but Biden froze the money. President Trump unfroze it on his first day back in office. Construction is currently underway in all four border States.

When the money bomb of the Big Beautiful Bill works its way through contracting, we are going to be off to the races building border wall system. The whole project is now funded up front, and President Trump knows how to drive a construction project, maybe better than anything else. It’s going to be glorious.
