Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani was seriously injured in a freak car accident in New Hampshire on Saturday night, a rep said.

Giuliani, 81, was hospitalized with a fractured vertebrae and multiple cuts and bruises, including injuries specifically to his left arm and lower leg, after his rent-a-car was hit from behind, spokesman Michael Ragusa said Sunday.

“Mayor Giuliani was flagged down by a woman who was a victim of domestic violence prior to the accident. He rendered assistance and contacted 911, remaining on scene until responding officers arrived to ensure her safety,” said Ragusa, Giuliani’s head of security.

“The accident occurred after he re-entered his vehicle, which was then hit from behind at high speed.”

Ragusa said Giuilani, who was mayor from 1994 through 2001, is recovering and in good spirts.

“The mayor is in great spirits. He’s a beast. He survived 9/11,” Ragusa said.

He is a tough one for sure. Sorry to hear that. He’ll fight to recover - no giving up for him. Pretty bad/impaired drivers out there. Your life is at risk by getting among them.

Watch “Road Wars” sometime. It is unbelievable what people do behind the wheel of a car. I saw one the other day where the guy ended up with 38 citations after the police finally caught up with him.

He was enraged (no other word for it) to be held up in traffic while the Portland Rose Festival was taking place and streets were closed and drove through a construction site with workers running to get out of his way - over landscaping, curbs, sidewalks, through red lights/stop signs and ended up ON THE PARADE ROUTE with people scrambling to get out of the way and continued on until the police finally stopped him.

Anyone with a temper like that should never have a drivers license.

At the Mass in the Latin Rite today, the Gospel was the lesson of the Good Samaritan. I have my issues with Mayor Giuliani, but he was a neighbor to that woman.

"pulled out into the travel lane without looking or judging distance?"

Like many States, New Hampshire has a rule that you must, if at all possible, move over into the other lane to avoid law enforcement or first responder vehicle on the shoulder of the road. Police were at the scene. If the person who hit him couldn't safely move to the other lane, they should have slowed down and not been speeding in that lane.

This accident seems similar to the one that killed Gen. George S. Patton.

Strange. No details were reported about the driver who struck Rudy Giuliani car “from behind at high speed”.

Also, concerning Rudy Giuliani’s security head Michael Ragusa’s claim that before the crash, Giuliani was flagged down by a woman who was a victim of domestic violence, rendered assistance, contacted 911, and remained on scene with her until responding officers arrived to ensure her safety, another report noted, “It’s unclear how that incident is related to the car crash that injured the former mayor.”

Also, was Ragusa in the same car as Giuliani when the collision occurred?
