FDA expands radioactive shrimp recall amid concerns over possible contamination (From Russian Sub Base?)

The Food and Drug Administration is expanding its shrimp recall to include two more products that may have been contaminated with cesium-137 (Cs-137).

Both products recently added to the recall came from Seattle-based Aquastar Corp. Around 26,460 packages of cocktail shrimp and approximately 18,000 bags of Kroger Mercado Cooked Medium Peeled Tail-Off Shrimp are being pulled from shelves due to possible radioactive contamination.

The affected cocktail shrimp was sold in Walmart stores across 27 states between July 31 and Aug. 16. Meanwhile, affected packages of the Kroger Mercado Cooked Medium Peeled Tail-Off Shrimp were sold in stores across 17 states. However, these packages were not only sold at Kroger locations. Other affected stores include Baker’s, Gerbes, Jay C, Mariano’s, Metro Market, Pay Less Supermarkets, and Pick ‘n Save, according to the FDA.

Thank you very much and God bless you.

Cesium-137 is entirely manmade, not naturally occurring. It is a typical byproduct of nuclear reactors and nuclear weapons - both of which were concentrated at Russia's huge Rybachiy Nuclear Submarine Base on the Kamchatka Peninsula.

Rybachiy was struck by one of the ten biggest earthquakes ever recorded (8.8) on 30 July - just before the contaminated shrimp hit the market. The epicenter of this giant earthquake was just 75 miles offshore of this submarine base, and a commensurately large tsunami swept over the base minutes after the quake, and there were hundreds of aftershocks.

I gotta remember to take my Geiger Counter along when I shop for any seafood, these days.

I’ve had a hard and fast rule for years now about not eating not only shrimp but any seafood comingbout of Indonesia......I guess I’ll have to add Russia to the list. 😏

Top tip if you shop at Aldi......much of their frozen seafood originates out of china.

pinging the RADIOACTIVE SHRIMP PING LIST

(If you want off this ping list you have to prove that you haven't knowingly and willingly eaten radioactive shrimp in the last 10,000 years)

Hey, all you have to do is set them on your table and if they glow when it gets dark ... don’t eat them.

I picked up a scintillator at RadiaCode.com tells how much radiation your receiving and which isotopes are doing it.

Cesium-137 is one of the most common radioisotope used for a slew of medical and industrial uses. There is virtually zero way an earthquake cracked open a nuclear submarine reactor inside a solid steel tube , past triple shielding, past the 6+” thick reactors pressure vessel and cracked open zirconium cased fuel rods. Zero as in nada.

Remember the USS Thrasher fully imploded past its pressure depth and it’s whole reactor compartment sunk to 12000+ feet deep water they send down an ROV when it was found. The reactor compartment was still in one piece and there was zero evidence of leakage or breach of fuel rods or the reactor pressure vessel its full of water thats incompressable and at 500+ psi as it cools it would have equalized with the water temp and pressure outside of it hence no breach...it’s almost as if they are designed that way hint they are it is expected that in combat some reactors would sink so their designed to sit on the seafloor at any depth. Russians same design they stole it from us in the 1960s that’s why when the Kursk want down it also just sat there in cool down mode. The Russians have lost half a dozen nuke subs we recovered one using a great cover story and a adapted oil rig its reactor was in one piece as well.

Cesium-137 is used so much in industry that the likely source of this is some third world industry threw it out when they were done with it rather than sending it to HLW landfill for $$$$ so there is Cesium-137 rods from say a food irradiation machine just leeching into the water system its dumped into and anything down stream say a shrimp farm that uses water will pick up and bioacummulate rads. Dollars to donuts this is the source someone dumped radwaste and it’s leeching out and will do so for 5 more Half-Lifes

“Cesium-137 is used so much in industry that the likely source of this is some third world industry”

I heard from another poster (on a different thread), that it has been reported that the contamination was from leakage of food processing equipment (probably machines that irradiate the food to kill pathogens).

Are we buying shrimp from Russia? I don’t think so. This is a real stretcher.

“Are we buying shrimp from Russia?”

My theory was that the radioactive contamination might have been released into the Pacific Ocean from the massive earthquake (10th largest ever recorded, with an epicenter just 75 miles directly offshore of the base) and the resulting tsunami. Any ship from any country might then harvest contaminated seafood in nearby International waters.

Another strong possibility is leakage from some industrial equipment used in processing/packaging the shrimp (irradiating it, to control bacterial or fungal contamination).

“There is virtually zero way an earthquake cracked open a nuclear submarine reactor inside a solid steel tube”

The base itself serviced the bulk of Russia”s subs in the Pacific from many decades, for their reactors and weapons. Likely that nuclear fuel and nuclear waste were stored on the base, and could have been in process in maintenance facilities. Russia has a bad reputation for industrial safety and environmental contamination, and that site has been in heavy use since long back into Soviet times. I believe that the tsunami was about 5 meters high.
