DemocRAT flips Iowa state senate seat and breaks Republican supermajority

A Democratic candidate has defeated an extremist Republican in a state senate election in Iowa, claiming that voters are “waking up” to realise Donald Trump’s party “sold the working class a bill of goods”.

Catelin Drey flipped Iowa state senate district 1, beating Christopher Prosch in a special election held on Tuesday to fill the seat of the late senator Rocky De Witt.

Prosch had aligned himself with Trump’s Maga movement, floating conspiracy theories about the 2020 presidential election and climate crisis. He also compared abortion access to the Holocaust.

But Drey, a 37-year-old marketing executive, won with 55% of the vote to Prosch’s 44%, representing a swing of more than 20 points from Trump’s performance last year in the district, which covers most of Sioux City.

Something for the left to brag about. They are always looking for negative things to report about.

I’d love to see more analysis of this.

The left is definitely galvanizing around this.

If they won it’s because they cheat and get away with it.

Literally NO ONE knew there was even an election last night that is why hardly anyone came out to vote. Look at the number of those who voted, its very small, and everyone knows that GOP voters dont come out in elections like this

Sounds like the state party GOP-E did it usual lazy ass minimum effort whiled the Dems were hyper organized. The Dems in Iowa have wised up. Their candidates are running as “gun totting hunt and fishing Christians” and “working parents”

In sort, back to the old Dem playbook of lying about what they really stand for and pretending to be “just regular folk”.

Special elections are a poor indicator of political trends.

Too many, although GOP is really at fault. This seat in non-presidential year 2022 got 7700 GOP votes and this time got 3411 GOP votes (to 4208 for Dem).

"He also compared abortion access to the Holocaust."

There is no basis for comparison...
Abortion has killed (and continues to kill) hundreds of millions, whereas the holocaust killed less than 10 million...
Apples and oranges...
