Civil servants, housewives and retirees alike lined up in Venezuela's capital Caracas over the weekend as thousands volunteered to join the country's militia in case there is a U.S. invasion.
President Nicolas Maduro called on citizens to respond to "outlandish threats" by the U.S. and sign up over the weekend to the Bolivarian Militia, a civilian corps linked to the South American country's armed forces.
The show of force is also intended to send a message to Washington, which has issued a $50 million bounty for Maduro -- who is accused by the Trump administration of leading a drug cartel -- and has stationed three warships off Venezuela's coast for what the U.S. says are anti-drug operations.
Last week, Maduro denounced "the renewal of extravagant, bizarre and outlandish threats" from the U.S.
Militia registration centers were set up in the capital's squares, military and public buildings and even in the presidential palace Miraflores.
Volunteers could also sign up in the Mountain Barracks, which is home to the mausoleum of late socialist leader Hugo Chavez, in a densely populated area with large housing projects and crumbling brick houses.

Interesting you never see anyone line up to defend America (domestically) except for the police and those on handouts.
Anyway, The U.S. government, including the Departments of State, Treasury, and Justice, has formally accused Maduro and other officials of leading a drug trafficking organization known as the “Cartel of the Suns.” This group is alleged to be comprised of high-ranking Venezuelan military and government officials who use their positions to facilitate the smuggling of cocaine and other drugs.
In March 2020, the U.S. Department of Justice indicted Maduro on charges of narco-terrorism, conspiracy to import cocaine, and other related offenses. The State Department has offered a reward for information leading to his arrest, which was recently increased to $50 million. Note who was President then.
US authorities and other sources allege that Maduro and the “Cartel of the Suns” have worked with various criminal groups, including the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC), the Mexican-based Sinaloa Cartel, and the Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua, to move large shipments of drugs.
One might think that CBS is a pro commie news organization after reading that screed.
No, wait......
We really, really cannot despise our media enough.
Well, The Maduro government has consistently denied these allegations of drug trafficking, calling them a “smokescreen” and a politically motivated attempt by the U.S. to instigate regime change ( Reminiscent of Noriega ).
Maduro and other officials have asserted that Venezuela is free of coca production and has its own operations to combat drug trafficking.
Who to believe our DOJ or Maduro?
Sad looking bunch
ROTFL!. Most Venezuelan housewives are Navy Seals. Some are trained as Underwater Dishwashing and Torilla Making Commandos.
More “fake but accurate” ‘reporting’?
Claim a bounty? /rhetorical question
Can I bring my purse?
Well you just don’t lead them as far.
The only good commie or socialist is a dead one in my view.
It seems they have dropped the word “forced.”
So the proles are going to be armed to fight off the mean old Yankees? That should be interesting.
Too bad our old-timer 7th Group green berets can’t open up about their unit’s generations long history and knowledge of Latin America.
Can you prove that, or are you just like The Media?
Sorry Maduro, but you disarmed your civilians. That makes it much harder to assemble a “well regulated militia.”
“”So the proles are going to be armed to fight off the mean old Yankees? That should be interesting.””
Interesting, or pure BS? As if the leftist PTBs in Venezuela would trust an armed militia of civilians.
I guarantee the average Venezuelan citizen has no interest in protecting Maduro. Gang members, cartel members and families have everything to lose tho. The citizens have already lost everything. They, like many Iranians, are probably hoping Maduro will go away.
