Dems wanted to draw every Republican out of Maryland but now lambast Texas redistricting

After the Old Line State lost a congressional seat in the 2010 census, Annapolis was tasked with drawing new lines for the now-eight remaining, and then-Gov. Martin O’Malley ultimately testified about his eagerness to box-out the GOP.

While overwhelmingly Democratic, Maryland features conservative strongholds at its geographic extremes — the Western Panhandle and Eastern Shore — and a smattering of Republican-majority communities throughout the more densely-populated center of the state.

One of the newly-drawn seats — the 3rd District represented by then-Rep. John Sarbanes, D-Md., — resembled what Fourth Circuit federal Judge Paul Niemeyer called a "broken-winged pterodactyl, lying prostrate across Maryland."

Appearing to painstakingly connect some of the state’s wealthier suburban communities while steering clear of inner-city Baltimore and the military installation at Fort George Meade, the district had the rare distinction of being one that a person would be unable to drive across.

...

The 2010 decennial redraw that created the 3rd also sought to boot the rest of the GOP delegation, and eventually succeeded in making it halfway.

...

Then-Rep. Roscoe Bartlett, R-Md....saw his district shifted to include very liberal, white-collar D.C. suburbs along I-270.

...

In a 2017 deposition amid a lawsuit over Maryland’s map, O’Malley admitted to seeking Bartlett’s ouster or better: "That was my hope."

He worked with Maryland’s Democratic legislature to craft such a map.

"It was my intent to create… a district where the people would be more likely to elect a Democrat than a Republican."

Democrats hate having done unto them what they’ve done unto others.

It’s all ok when the communists do it, but go totally apeshit when real Americans do it.

Maryland is not like Massachusetts. There are GOP strongholds in the state while in Massachusetts, the whole state is leftist so you cannot really carve out a district out of that.

The GOP until Donald Trump was content to be in the minority. After all, corruption is profitable.

Marylands famous “Praying Mantis” 3rd congressional district.

I would argue that district is unconstitutional because it is not a contiguous congressional district.

I believe that the Supreme Court gives the states plenty of leeway when it comes to drawing their own Congressional District but this is pushing it.

They’re doing it for “democracy”. Which of course means people will naturally want to vote for Democrats. If they’re not voting for Democrats it’s because they’ve been duped by online disinformation, probably from Russia.

(I’ve actually heard people come out and say this)

“...They’re doing it for “democracy”....”

Their so-callled communist “democracy” is a dire threat to our Constitutional Republic.

awwww.... they drew a district for John Sarbanes, son of long-time Maryland politico Paul Sarbanes. I live in a red county in Southern Maryland. We are hostage to the Dims.

Kansas and Nebraska. Get rid of their Democrat leaning districts. I suspect the Republicans were being “nice” when they drew those. For sure, there are a lot of RINOs in Kansas.

I’m grateful to live on the Eastern Shore. It’s a whole different Maryland. Prettier, too. And safe.

The difference is they do it during the ten year period. Why didn’t Texas do this in 2020? Or 2030? We’re going to have annual redistricting all over the country.
